I’m for legalisation but this is a very good point.
What I will say is that if you're for the prohibition of drugs to be consistent you need to advocate for the banning of alcohol.
We know the damage it causes so if you’re applying the same argument to drugs then alcohol falls in the same bracket.
Wrong It is easier to “ drink responsibility” than to take drugs safely Have a few spliffs on an evening ? Stays in your system next morning Glass of wine with meal is gone m It’s the argument used by pro legalisation brigade
And yeah , I’d make legal drink linit zero
We’re either serious about taking dyckheafs off the road or not

If recreational/self medication/addictive and harmful drugs were legalised?
It's profound to think that doctors will then be prescribing medication to prevent cardiac arrythmia, whilst prescribing life-style choice drugs that'll cause that.
It's profound to think that doctors will then be prescribing medication to treat psychosis, whilst prescribing life style choice drugs that'll cause that.
It's profound to think that doctors will then be prescribing medication to prevent physical decline, illness and death, whilst prescribing lifestyle drugs that'll cause all that.
It's profound to think that doctors whom wish to practice to Hippocratic oath standards, will then be prescribing life style drugs that'll stick two fingers to what they well and truly believe is best for their patients.
I don’t envisage doctors prescribing. There are other options- possibly government sanctioned centres.
As the Dr. Said earlier. The war on drugs has been lost and it’s probably sensible to look at something safer.
It may well lead into some increased use but the damage won’t be a patch on alcohol.

Again, we need to stop people taking drugs
Could you imagine if a family gets murdered, because of a person in a (has happened and aforementioned) drug induced psychotic frenzy, but this time, caused by someone getting his hands on government supplied drugs?
Or an entire family Mam, Dad and kids being wiped out, because of a car crash involving someone driving the wrong way up a motorway at 100mph, whilst under the influence of government supplied drugs?
Me do think that any government responsible for that is rather going to end up with an absolute nightmare on its hands, because of!

Replace the work drugs with drink in that post.
There is a difference - there are laws on what goes into drink and you have to publicly show the strength. That could be done with drugs too.

The local lad slitting a goat’s throat and terrorising a neighborhood aside? I shall give another prime example from many regarding the frightening repercussions of drug use. I shall refer to a person, whom would have made himself a prime candidate for a government funded 'drug-proliferation-programme'. His name would have been first down on the list if he had his way.
I shall refer to him as “Dai”!
Now “Dai” went to progress from early stage drug taking to murder two children, a young mother and grandmother one night.
No matter where “Dai” lived, went, or was seen, he caused trouble whether that be: Upper King’s Road….trouble…. Cadle Crescent….trouble….Rhyddwen Road…trouble....Kelvin Road...trouble.
Murders aside, bizarre inexplicable ritualistic-sadism was evident at the aforementioned murder scene that was just not ‘normal’ for a person of ‘clear mind’. So much so that It perplexed the senior investigating officer... "Psychosis" was mentioned at the trial!
And it was not only at that particular murder scene either, but during another murder attempt (police know about this) when he attacked a guy with an iron bar, to then (not on Google) inexplicably put the bar down, to go downstairs to get a hammer for a more ‘intimate’ killing experience.
Now “Dai” was rather out of his mind during those times!!!! Now “Dai’s” drugs of choice were injectable amphetamines and cannabis. I tell you now, the last thing this country needs to do is to create more “Dai’s” of this world.
The Craig Cefn Parc and Sunnybank area will be dragged into a yes/no debate forever .
Even now close to 30 years later the subject is still a no go area of conversation in there .
The Clydach murder of an innocent family and children will be subject to book sales and added TV apperances by other so called experts who were not living there back then .
Heddlu were implicated in investigations but nothing proven of misdirection in the evidence gained from the scene of horrors of that evening .
The killer there has either passed on or another got a great alibi to cover his rear end .

Harsher sentences ! What !
How , well maybe the same way we teach kids being anti Islamic , Homosexual or transgender is wrong
We should bring back the ultimate deterrent
If they carry on then they forfeit their filthy lives
It’s us or them
I read it’s because we can’t cope , well we can’t cope with burglary with drink drug driving so do we decriminalise those offences . It’s the same principle
Harsh we are not . Drink drug drivers should see their cars confiscated and drivers given ten year ban
Either we attack these issues or not
You’re a liberal so you have a different perspective
The last think we do is encourage , as we do now Recreational my arse

There is no evidence that harsher sentences reduce drug use.
I'm not being liberal, I'm being practical.

We’ve not had harsher sentences therefore that negates your argument We have less severe sentences due to pressure of number in Prison, another reason to keep prisoners locked up as least time as possible It is all wrong We heed to eliminate those who cause death on our streets Drug dealers do that To do that they need a market No market, no drug dealers That is what we should be aiming at How we do it is key but the Greens show just how warped people are
Black market drugs have been freely available for centuries so regardless whether they're legalised and supplied by the Government there will always be a supplier competing for the market in the same way smokers now look at buying from back street vendors with no idea of what's contained , people by they're very nature will always search for a bargain and I cant see any state sponsored supply drug being any cheaper than what's available now plus there won't be VAT attached .

State sponsored supply would only lead to profiteering by pharmaceutical companies and government employees. Just like drug rep gifts and back handers but on a much larger scale.

Thank you
Iran, Saudi Arabia and the UAE have the toughest drug laws on the planet with death sentences (including in some instances for being caught with small amounts).
Drug use continues to rise and in Iran, which has the most severe penalties, and they face some if the most severe increases and associated issues.
In what way could they make the penalties tougher to reverse this trend?

If cigarettes were illegal and therefore has no quality control and had to be bought from backstreet gangs, would smoking be more or less safe?

No, as the govt could buy it in bulk just as the NHS buys drugs in bulk and get's it a lot cheaper, unlike in the USA

No, because it will actually be saving lives. Doctors used to prescribe all kinds of drugs, until the start of the so called war on drugs, during the 1930s, way before it was popularised in the 70s

Not strictly true, The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence decide what drugs the NHS can use in England and Wales, Scotland is different.

You believe lighter sentences are the way forward then Tell that to victims of crime

Of course not but its an addiction like alcohol, like illicit drugs which are certainly no safer as too many deaths can confirm but there are warning labels with quite descriptive images of the consequences and that still doesn't stop folk from buying over or from under the counter .

The more we can take off the street the better.
It’s never going to stop illicit stuff completely but would have a massive impact on organised crime.

With respect, that’s not an answer.
We’re liberal compared to Iran who are having awful problems. So the question remains, what should they do? Behead people twice?
Not wishing to be seen as pedantic but they don't Behead people in Iran as a rule - I think there's been one case in about 50 years since the Shah was deposed
Every other method of execution is used including slow strangulation hanging, throwing off tall buildings (which the delighful and cherished Palestinians also enjoy a spot of especially for homosexuals) and stoning to death but decapitation is more an Arab thing than a Persian thing- I think only Saudi still executes in this way, although my uncle was in Qatar with the Army in the late 70s and the Qataris were still doing the odd public beheading back then...
It's bloody but quick - a benevolence that the lovely folk in that part of the world don't bestow on their livestock sadly...
