Government energy policy has reached a new nadir. Readers will recall that the King's Speech included an intention to put the ban on new North Sea drilling licences into law. Yet now the UK government has relaxed sanctions to allow the direct import of crude oil and LNG from Russia, and also the import of jet fuel and diesel refined in third countries. A trade licence, which came into effect today, permits the imports 'indefinitely'.
So politicians like Miliband think it is beyond the pale to extract oil from the sea off our shores, but fine to import high carbon-footprint oil by ship from Russia and India, And the profits will go directly into Putin's war chest to support the invasion of Ukraine, which in the longer term mean the UK and its allies face higher costs to hold back Russian advances. I am struggling to hold back expletives to describe the utter stupidity and moral bankruptcy of our rulers. No doubt they think this can save their skins by easing the cost of living crisis, but I hope people see this for what it is..

Here is a well argued case with respect to the energy transition.
It concluded that producing our own oil and gas will increase revenues and energy security. It will also provide employment.
It also includes an explanation of why we going to need oil and gas for decades, our current standing on net zero and why because of geography and weather solar and wind are nut enough.
Reducing our energy security and chucking money at Putin while we chuck money at Ukraine does it make any sense.

As King Penguin he'd do a deal with the seals because ' although the seals eat penguins I do not think that seals deliberately eat penguins it is only because they don't have access to non penguin foods. Seals are our friends and when I was a boy my mother and father had three pet seals.' |  |

It looks as though the initial reportage of what the Government had done is only half correct. A better way of describing it is as follows. The Government had stated that it would tighten sanctions by changing the law to ban the purchase by UK entities of refined oil products from any country that use Russian crude oil and that was now due to come into force. What the licenses seen by journalists did was water down this so that certain planned changes no longer applied straight away (and with no definite date for the suspension to end). This is still bad enough, and Starmer and other ministers are desperately obfuscating to minimise the reputational damage. Chris Bryant, a trade minister, repeated Starmer's argument that sanctions were being strengthened. “We’ve handled this clumsily and that’s entirely my fault and I apologise to all honourable members,” We still do not have a clear statement from a minister about why the delay is necessary. As I suggested, it seems to be one element in a package of measures to address the cost of living crisis that the Government hopes will raise its standing with the public.

Antharcite is used to purify water at our sewage and drinking water plants. We will now have to import from thousands of miles away at extra carbon cost to the environment.

Miners are cowboys companies created a god awful mess in Wales. UK management consultancy cannot force miners to restore the land they trash from profit they take . The companies are cute enough to ensure profits are notionally low to avoid fund ESCOW pots for liabilities for cleaning up .

Great city Rotterdam. I went there last month I expected to see Tulips and Junkies but saw neither.
The boat tour was nice analysing various forms a of warehouses and the rotating restaurant building that does not work.
It w very nice foreign people recommending we Welsh to trash our land for 6 jobs and a £50m restoration paid for by the ratepayers after the miners have done a runner. | |
