| Jamestown Analytics 13:13 - Jun 23 with 12006 views | ModeratorC | Tony Bloom etc Swansea City have announced a partnership with data specialists Jamestown Analytics which they say will strengthen the club's work in the transfer market. Jamestown Analytics is owned by Tony Bloom (pictured above), the owner of Premier League Brighton and Hove Albion – who have been lauded for their recruitment work in recent years - and a part-owner of Scottish side Heart of Midlothian. The company has also worked with the likes of Como and Union Saint Gilloise, with Swansea claiming their new agreement will see them given "access to world-leading, industry-renowned expertise" which will increase efficiency in their "player trading model". Swansea have not revealed the financial details of the Jamestown Analytics deal. "This partnership is a real coup for the club," chief executive Tom Gorringe told Swansea's website. "Jamestown are widely regarded as leaders in data-led player recruitment, and we have seen the success that many of their partner clubs have achieved over recent times. Jamestown only works with an exclusive list of clubs and we are honoured to now join that group." Swansea appointed Ben Stevens as their new sporting director last week. On Monday, they announced that Jay Lefevre had been promoted to a head of recruitment role under Stevens, having joined Swansea from Celtic in December 2025 as chief scout.

| Jamestown Analytics on 12:10 - Jun 25 by streetlyjack | I am all for modernising the game and hope the success Brighton and Hearts had last season can be replicated at SCFC next season. I wouldn't want football to turn into the NFL however and would quite like to see a few mavericks who are more worried about beating the full back than damaging their stats - will these players even exist in 10 years time? Maradona, Cruyff, Best, Pele etc would all have rubbish stats but were brilliant creative players that excited fans and made the game more entertaining. Would much rather watch this type of player than the 'robots' we get these days. |
I just don't understand how you can say those players would have rubbish stats, would you care to elaborate.
| Jamestown Analytics on 12:36 - Jun 25 with 2119 views | streetlyjack | Yes of course - failed attempts at goal, losing possession, pass completion, KM's covered per game, successful tackles etc. The modern player takes little or no risks and these guys did is my point back when stats werent used as a yardstick to judge performances. Their key stats that matter of course are goals scored, and created and the trophies they won which are unrivalled, not sure they would have held 90% pass completion rates however whilst going about their business is what I was trying to articulate. | |

Thats fair. But my point is if analytics and statistics we clearly visibly you would not need specialist advice. Its what we can't see that makes the difference.

Fulton would be first out of the door under Michael Laudrup and possible Bendan . He is not an accomplished footballer. He is a solid player at Championship level and if that is where Swansea will be than he fits in. I would support him more if he could fill in at Centre back or full back . Swansea best teams kept the ball moving all the time. This bamboozled Phil Parkinson's Bradford . Fulton is slow of mind and action and clumsy. He got himself sent off at Wembley falling over. Fulton got games at Swansea under Potter but so did Baker Richardson.

Perhaps if Southampton had used them instead of junior members of staff they would be in the Premier League now.

You'll always have mavericks in the game. People think that the analystics/stats is either the best thing since sliced bread or will ruin recruitment in the future. The reality is it's been around for an awful long time and always will be, however what it will do is be used initially to help shortlist/identify players to go out and directly scout with the naked eye rather than send a scout blindly to watch Altrincham v Rochdale in hope you may find a player of the future. I'm pretty sure a well organised and structured club would use analytics and physical scouting in tandem before parting 100'k or Millions on players blindly. Gone are the days where clubs would sign a player because the manager was told he's George Weah' cousin from a random phone call.

| Jamestown Analytics on 11:20 - Jun 25 by streetlyjack | I do understand fully the value Fulton brings to the squad and as a back up player but my point is we need better in his position if we are to go up. Stats only tell part of the story also..Ronald for instance will undoubtably have good stats for his workrate, safe passes backwards and dynamic sprints etc but can you honestly tell me he offers us a threat going forward and is capable of contributing to a promotion chasing team?? My eyes seem to be working fine but my head tells me we need a more dynamic winger if we are to challenge for promotion - the stats can look great but the reality is far different. |
Ronald is definitely not the answer and needs moving on , Key is definitely replaceable but Fulton is a very experienced player who to my mind shut up his critics this season due to Matos seeing and appreciating what he can bring to the team. It must have been a frustrating time for Fulton having to sit on the bench watch Grimes doing eff all but he’s a good professional, a good person and a good character in the dressing room. He has value much like Naughton did for us, especially with the new and younger players. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

| Jamestown Analytics on 11:38 - Jun 25 by Whiterockin | Personally I feel we need more pace in the team, preferably on the right for me. Again only my opinion but Ronald needs to play wing back in a 3 at the back team. I was hoping that Inoussa would have been better than he has been. But I can see why Ronald is picked as his tracking back is excellent, but is that what we want in a winger. Fulton is an excellent, experienced pro and squad member who does exactly what is required of him. Key has had a troublesome season, probably personal reasons but is an excellent championship full back, as seen in the last couple of games of the season. Burgess is an old fashioned stopper, but I would prefer an all round defender in there. Cooper was messed about last season, firstly by Wigan then by us. I stand by the club messed up and didn't realise he wasn't allowed to go on loan to another club. He needs a fresh start somewhere in league one. Again only my opinions. |
Pace is a must. How many times have we had the good sides like Solon and Leicester (relegated I know but from the season when they got promoted ) ripped us to shreds on the break? It would be nice to have quick attacking play in our armoury.

Depends on how you see things. To my mind Fulton was the only player up for that game - most of his team mates meekly surrendered.

Congreve Cotterill Wilson Watts x2. loaned . b) Money to spend. Who knows about this? New sponsorship from the famous rappers company. £5-8m for Galbraith. Extending Fulton and Fisher does not fit this model.

Take your point about Robotic players but I think in a team you need a mixture of robots and flair players . As Cantona used to say water carriers ... but they are a necessary part of a successful team. Nobby Stiles , Alan Ball in Englands 66 team prime examples . What AI is revolutionising in football clubs I think is the nearest you can get to a perfect match . Imagine a team needs a left back who must be exceptionally fit with good injury history , first class attitude , disciplinary record ,excellent assists stats and can make excellent times on recovery runs . Finding a needle in a haystack is made easy by punching in the data and tailor making the teams requirements so that AI can come up with a near as perfect solution. Scouting of player then takes place . Signing follows (in theory)AI takes the leg work out of the sifting through all the possible permutations. The more naturally gifted attacking players Best Pele Gascoigne types will be more difficult to pigeon hole/attain because genius usually comes with character flaws so the more potentially valuable attacking football mavericks will need a set of eyes watching them rather more than a digital printout , But there is a role for artificial intelligence in football I think certainly in finding the best defenders and defensive/ attacking midfielders .

Didn't you say. "Swansea will not be doing a lot of trading this season. 2-3 players at most" "We have a massive recruitment staff when there will be little actual trading." So we have two players officially signing on Wednesday and have teamed up with Jamestown Analytics to aid the recruitment process. Lets see how that goes, remember the bookmark.

These comments were made on the departure of Worth who I speculated left because little action was likely. He left and Fulton and Fisher were given new deals. At the same time Matos stated it was time to utilise the academy more with six prospects returning for this pre season. Matis himself said tweaks were required not surgery. In my post I gave you the scenario where trading would be valid. This includes the unexpected sale of Galbraith who recently rejected a new contract and the selling of the aforementioned players like Fulton and Fisher, Cooper who is not favoured and ev n establish players like Ronaldo and Burgess . Will this happen?.Probably not. Swansea tends to be a lean operation. Bianchieri and Cooperwi follow Santos out to d the door. No inconsistencies in my book. If the recruitment want new players Matos has to shift a few. Ones he has given new contracts .

Fulton and Fisher extended their contracts in February, Worth left in April. The timings are not relevant here. What is relevant is the recruitment strategy. I speculated that Worth left and the recruitment team was not urgently being refreshed was a function of a lull in activity. New contracts for squad players and the return of 8 academy prospects was consistent with this approach. Matos himself stated tweaks were t required . The tie up with the Brighton recruitment system was the real reason and is also consistent with intermittent trading. They are sub contractors and subcontractor s ars useful as they can be used or laid off at time of need or lulls ain the work train. I also speculated on the payment system which could be an annual fee and a % charge in and out. Without an annual fee JA would lose interest if Swansea were not trading. Swansea does not want too many redundant players. Galbraith money will give James Analytics something to play with. Selling some players would provide space and wages. Cooper, Bianchieri, Burgess, Fulton, Fisher, Ronald even Cullen are eating upto £50-60k a week in wages. Is Matos / Gorringe ready to act now? I suspect not.
