I have mixed feelings after the home debut; a draw at this stage of the Championship is still welcome, especially as everything seems volatile at the moment, but there were some worrying signs in this game that I don't want to see become a pattern. 1 Click above, it’s brilliant.

With his kick we have seen balls travel the full length of the pitch might be worth trying to catch high sweeper goalies of their lines. Sounds a bit limited in approach but for most of the game the long throws and long goal kicks are being used extensively at all levels of the game Sheffield United did it, Birmingham did it just to stretch the game and get them up the pitch quicker and in numbers, causing issue for defenders. We played so nice stuff of Saturday early on but Sheffield eventually stopped sitting back and we almost paid the price. In the second half they stifled our game until the last 10 minutes in which we did get more pressure on them winning a number of corners.

You mentioned at the end of the "Poor in build-up" portion of the article, about the Sheff U's high press, "We will face more sides that press high, and we need to be better at playing through it". The same thing also happened in the 2nd half against Brum "turned up the heat" with their high press and it caused a lot of problems for the Swans. Good observation!

Thank you for the kind words! Yes, if we are to properly challenge for promotion we must be difficult to press high against. We ought to be a team that controls games and suffocates opponents, but 70% possession means way less if it isn't in dangerous areas. We can of course go long at times and switch it up depending on gamestate and opponent, but vs Sheffield we had no other options. Needs to be better.

I agree! We sliced up Stoke but got stifled and snookered by Sheff U. I think that's why so many are upset with this past Saturday's result, especially after seeing our away performance against Stoke. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

We won against Stoke and wrestled back control late on against Sheffield but looked ineffectual at times up top. We saw in Luke Williams first full season at the start of the season we kept clean sheets but had very few goals then he went all Russell Martin on us and got virtually nothing. I was going to post a new thread the following it is a bit of a waffle but has similar points mentioned. What role do you see Stamenic playing this season.... I like what I see at times of Stamenic but it is a bit of a quandary as to where to play him, with us playing with three in the middle do we play him high or forward at the tip of a triangle and have workers and runners off him in attack mode while those runners do most of the defensive work. We have seen he has scored a small number of well taken goals and also be able to use any space given to turn allowing distribution though the middle of the park. I not saying he is as good as a Hoddle, Waddle, Brooking or Kennedy but does he have similar traits. That triangle must be to rotates to allow cover for forward runs while going forward at times two of the three to advance forward instead of our fullbacks. At the moment we do seem to need our full backs to press on as we try to attack down the wings, I only watched the highlights of the Championship and caught one of Millwall's goal against Norwich it was classic counter attack Norwich kept their wingers out wide and were done through the middle by driving runs sucking the Norwich defence in and leaving the wingers with lots of space to get telling crosses in, how many times have we seen this happen against us but I don't think we do it quickly or well enough ourselves no target man in the high midfield trying to use the centre forward to drop too deep unable to get back up with play. To be fair to Idah on one occasion the attack was on Yeo sped down wing but either did not see Idah busting a gut run or thought no-one else was in the box so wanted to keep possession although Idah was coming in behind all the defenders and a well hit pass would possibly taken out the four defenders out and leave Idah at the back post unmarked, a chance lost. Variations on 4-3--3 or 4--4-2 at different points in games?

Well exactly It’s not negativity to express concern no matter if it’s the only comments one makes We were quite excited and we should remain so We can do this Win = praise Lose / draw .= criticism

Don't think we got snookered by Sheffield as they really only had a couple of chances late in the first half.Just as we could have done better earlier in the half maybe trying too hard holding onto the ball and not taking the right option, in the second half Sheffield may have had some pressure on us but did little if no damage and in the end we looked the team to get into better positions up the pitch. Both teams cancelling each other out.

If you re-read my post, then you'll see that I stated that I'm not one of those who's disgruntled with Matos, the team, or a Draw result. I am a little disappointed, however. There's probably a lot of factors involved here but the fans who seem to be most upset are the ones who are criticizing Matos' decision not to sub-in Walta. Just started the Sheff U game because Just started and played well enough in the Stoke game. But if you look at his substitution decisions, then you'll understand that he went with Widell for Just at the same time he put in Key for the injured Cabango. Ross Stewart was his 5th and final substitute (for Fulton in the 87th min) because he probably believed that Stewart might conjure up a goal moreso than Walta. Of course, Vip and Eom were brought in for Idah and Yeo at the 57th min mark before Ben got hurt. In the end, Cabango's injury kept Walta from playing and I'm pretty sure that Matos would've played Walta if Cabango hadn't gotten injured.
