This year the temp is predicted to be 3 degrees above making it potentially the greatest effect in living memory.

I'm not getting into the climate change debate. However on the whole the Summers since the 2000s started have been lousy. There were years where we hardly sat outside after 5pm. Yes it's dry now but so was 76. No restrictions on water in the area. January to April was extremely wet this year. Wild fires of course are a worry. How many of these are started deliberately?

The problem is that a wet ish Autumn / Winter 25/26 was preceded by a dry than average spell. And since March we have had very little rain at all.
We don't usually have good summers in Wales, it's a little bit of rosy retrospection thnking we do. July in Welsh is Gorffenhaf for a reason - Gorfen (finish/ end) Haf (Summer). | | | |

I Iive not that far from Fairport Common. Last year I can remember a good few fires. Now some of these are controlled whilst others weren't. Last Summer was nothing like this one, so you have to harassed a guess at being deliberate or people's stupidity. | | | |

Also lousy weather doesn't mean much in terms of climate, a warmer atmosphere can hold more water. We'll have cooler summers in the future but far less often than now, we could have more rainfall but in very short bursts.
This is a good blog showing the patterns in hottest temps recorded in each year, it's one measure and only an example but the uptick in the last 8 - 12 years is remarkable.

There now apperas to be cctv images of yoofs who may have a connection to last nights fires, also 4 have been arressted for setting alight and destroying the Grade II* listed Rheola House on Tuesday which was started deliberately with the 4 in custody on suspicion of arson. | |
