We’ll have to wait and see what happens and what the police and CPS interpretation of the legislation is. It’s appears they were looking to accept a £500k donation from an ineligible donor who was submitting it via cover. If they hav exploited a “gap” in the legislation, the law needs to be tightened up.
There needs to be total transparency around donations to political parties and politicians. They should be working tor us, not a foreign state (Gill) or a billionaire or accepting cash for asking questions. |

On the one hand it is difficult to establish a completed offence when the foreign donor was fictitious, no money or other benefit was actually provided, the party did not actually receive or accept anything, and the discussions remained hypothetical. But on the other hand, the recorded interaction might be construed as including discussion of ways of structuring or disguising the proposed funding so that it could get around the restrictions on foreign donations in electoral law . It could be argued that the law includes attempts to evade controls, but then the issue arises of whether a real attempt can be made in the context of an entrapment.
I did an AI search to try to find out if there has ever been any similar case. The best it could come up with is the following:

The devil will be in the detail. But what is shown in the documentary is that Reform were clearly the benficiaries of the polling donation, they knew it came from the "American Dad".
The American says "he was thrilled to be able to pick up the tab fro the polls you have commissioned" and Farage replies "Yeah that's great,it worked, boom".
It is illegal to knowingly take steps to disguise or conceal that a donation has come from an impermissible source, and any donation above £11k needs to be declared and this wasn't. | | | |

Thing is, if the above were in the same position as Farage I'd be screaming for the police to investigate and pursue a prosecution if the evidence said thy'd broken the law.

Is that true. The figure I have is that Labour get between 7 and 10 million annually in non election years and that includes money from the unions.
Reform have had £72 million in the last day from two donors. Something not right about that. The amount of coverage that £72 million will buy in the internet world stage is crazy. |  |

I think ALL donations shoukd be outlawed and they get central funding from taxes based on seats won.
As a formerunuin member and CWU rep I think it's shocking that money still goes to Labour.

Depending on what metric is used, in 2025 official oversight tracking for total cash donations accepted by the Labour central party in 2025 sits at £8.2 million.
Reform UK raised roughly £18.6m–£19.8m in 2025, and the Conservative Party raised roughly £13.4m in cash donations.
These are the official figures as reported to/by the Electoral Commission. Given the on going investigations in to Reform, they may have received more than has been declared. | | | |

Both of these donators are crypto billionaires. Delo was convicted in the US four years ago over failings in an anti-money laundering programme in his business and subsequently pardoned by Trump.
Many Governments are wary of cryptocurrency because of the risks and challenges it poses to state monetary control, it enables financial evasion, tax evasion, money laundering, makes it difficult to track organised crime and drug dealing, terrorism etc etc and introduces systemic risk. | | | |

Have they no idea what they are doing when it comes to converting people to the right ? Both parties I understand have received more donations than Reform.
