Last season we asked the question where would be if we other players than Vipotnik adding to the goal tally, three different players scoring today, early days but a health table position and goal difference.
Quick balls forward causing teams problems, playing through the middle, wingers coming in off the wings, turning centre backs when the flanks have beenclosed down.
Nice to see Vipotnik getting goals but also others contributing. |

I agree. For the first time in a long while, we have a number of players capable of really chipping in on the goal tally. I also take your point about Stamenic earlier in the thread. I would love to see him driving forward and getting a shot away on a regular basis. He all the attributes needed. | |

They aren’t really getting strolled past, we are just getting turned over when they are higher up the pitch.
If that’s the game Matos wants us to play, they aren’t even out of position, they are attacking as instructed.
We’ll have to accept that teams will and already do target the gaps behind our fullbacks. Our deeper midfielders do tend to drop back when a fullback bombs on, but yes it’s not the same as having a defensive fullback there.
It’s a weakness in our system, but for me it’s overridden by the extra attacking threat it gives us.
Seven games, four wins, scored eleven, conceded five (three of them away to one of the best teams in the league). Second in the table. |

We do leave gaps out wide but are not the only team to do it ,it seems to be the modern way of playing,it’s just frustrating to see
But if you play more attacking football you’ll score more goals than the opposition and that’s how you win games so I suppose that’s Matos’ thinking
With Lissah and Welsh in the middle we seem to cover those wide breaks better as they’re more mobile and quicker | | | |

The impact of this window on our existing players has been great. Ronald, Eom, Fulton, Key all stepping up their performance. We genuinely have players to cover every position and not lose too much quality, except decent cover for Tymo. I'm trying to decide on my starting 3 central mid and struggling a bit. Although, I would like Just to increase his work rate and strength a bit if he's going to play that role. | |

Watching the match yesterday, my mate commented that one of the things that pi$$ed him off,was players stealing 20yds down the line, when taking a throw.
Just a thought, easy way to stop this is…. when a player is awarded a throw in, the ref uses his spray canister to mark the spot ?

Easy, if they want. Linesman carries a stock plastic discs (Pink? Why not?). Drops one at the key point, player must have a foot on or behind disk when he executes the throw in. If not, then throw-in for the other side. Linesman picks up disc at leisure.

Two good points, Stamenic that little bit further up the pitch really seems to suit him better joining and making attack, alternating midfielders creating space for each other higher up the pitch, covering each others forward runs while cover the fullback or in other cases the centrehalves in the middle as the centrehalves are covering the fullbacks at times. | | | |

Last season Vipotnik was our focal point and we played to him. This season we aren't. We're playing a higher press style which suits Idah's willingness to run the channels a lot more. It's not an effort issue. It's a style issue. Like playing a shortarse upfront and knocking it long. The shortarse may work like a Trojan, but it's still not going to be as effective.
That will take some adjusting on Vipotnik's part, but also the other players and the fans. If Vipi gets 10-15 goals this season playing in a style not as tailored to him as last season was then that's almost as impressive in my book.
The bonus would be if we can work out the ability to change styles depending on who we've got upfront, as that may help in dealing with our "low block" issues. |
This is the sort of thing I mean. Vipi is a lot better at the back to goal stuff than Idah is, so if we're struggling to play our way through teams the option to work the quick layoffs from Vipotnik instead could become a useful tool.
Needs work and practice, but there's potential there.
