Any other suggestions? It's a reasonably sized patch, I was thinking of getting a portable greenhouse to go over it. I'm also considering growing a herb garden, any tips (other than concealing mint in a pot due to its aggressive spreading)?

One courgette plant will supply a decent yield wayne. I planted three up the allotment last year and as well as eating as much as humanly possible was also giving them away. Look for other stuff that provides a good ratio with regard to cost to buy/room. Perpetual spinach, runner beans and French beans if you have the room will do this. You could sow lettuce seeds every say three weeks too within a limited space. With regard herbs, parsley, thyme, sage are good growers and a healthy rosemary plant will last as long as you take care of it. Coriander more problematic as it is prone to bolting. You'll have to take measures against slugs and snails, these hungry feckers will decimate within hours, plus perhaps birds too. Good luck mush!

Any dog friendly suggestions? Do I use the 'fur pellets' to keep the slugs and snails away? Do you suggest netting/plastic sheeting/portable greenhouses? Cheers Jack

I have a dog mate but just use the bog standard slug bait. There are other ways to go such as beer traps, eggshells and copper, I may look a bit deeper into this when the allotment is a bit more orderly. Portable plastic greenhouses are cheap enough in the likes of B&M and Home Bargains if you want to grow tomatoes and chillies etc, maybe consider 'pegging' the frame to planks of wood or burying the frame and making sure no wind can get under it (use tent pegs to secure the plastic to the ground) as they're susceptible to it. Sounds obvious but I learned the hard way!

Called in there today. standard LED £1.49 dimmable £1.99. Just remember if you are going to use them with standard dimmer switch they will probably buzz and flicker. You need to change standard dimmer switch for led dimmer switch. LED Dimmer switch not cheap.
