The younger generations care less and less about history in all forms, and music is just a byproduct of that. It's only natural.
Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, etc. - all the greats have experienced this. Elvis, Johnny Cash, The Beatles, Frank Sinatra; millenials don't even know who these people are for the most part, much less their music. The internet has allowed for everyone to know and experience everything, all the time, and the key is in capturing people's attention long enough to sell them something.
And for all of Elvis' team of marketers, he never had "hitmakers" like David Guetta and Skrillex and all their funky little gadgets to work with, and his music doesn't quite capture the "imaginations" of the youth in the same way as them.
Key quote: "Maybe we should just accept that Elvis's moment has passed."

When The Fine Young Cannibals did it.
I imagine I've just f*cked up my chance of me and Lohengrin ever being best buddies now.
I was brought on his music, due to my mothers obsession. I've got a pretty decent Elvis vinyl collection as it goes, just nothing to play it on . Love a bit of Elvis , Eddie Cochran, the Everlys, Buddy Holly and Billy Fury when I'm in the mood.
The choir in Alderman Davies learned "Falling In Love With You" as one of their songs for a competition this year. I went to see a tribute act in Vegas (good too) and there were a lot of youngsters there, so I'm sure the legacy will live longer than lots of us posting today will.
