I tend to agree, the media seem desperate to get a headline and all balance seems to have disappeared. You look at right and left wing media and they describe different worlds. You have to do your own research these days and try to find three reliable independent sources for any story, which is quite difficult at times. |  |

Not some local GP who tells you to stay at home and take paracetamol until you can't breath and end up in ICU.

You may be able to read numbers on a computer screen but you miss the bit next to it that says quite clearly that these numbers on this computer screen should not be used to infer any relation between any medication and illness. | | | |

It's the very randomness of this that is scary. I was talking to a 41 year old policeman yesterday. He is super fit, trains every day and doesn't have an ounce of fat. He was on a ventilator last Xmas and doesn't remember much about it.

You forget the context they put to those diagnoses, the South African population is much younger, on average, than the European population. It is 26.4 compared to Europe's 47.3 years.
It is known that covid affects the older people worse, or has done up until now which is why they are worried about the new variant. | |

Did you miss the "and elsewhere"?
There are quite a few with it in Europe and they can't all be young can they?
They are also saying it is like a bad cold.
As for SA, their life expectancy is 64 against our 81, so something is killing them. early
So they are basically the equivelent of "old people" at 64.
64 - 26 = 38 years and 81 - 47 = 34 years, so not that much difference in where they are in the lifetimes.
The other peculiar item is that they are having a COVID wave, but they do not have that many with Omicron, which suggests the majority of cases are actually still Delta | | | |
