I look forward to June.Mid summer.Light lights ,long days,no stress about buying presents nobody wants really and no pressure of people to buy unnecessary presents. It is the worst time of the year for those who have lost family and the pressure I mention makes it feel worse. The spirit of Christmas is now a commercial exercise Johnson killed thousands last year by not having the guts to "cancel" Christmas.

I’ve mixed feelings about Christmas. It’s probably the one occasion lots of families get to come together, particularly in these parts where lots of youngsters have moved away to forge careers etc. That is a very important and I can totally understand the outrage people feel towards our illustrious leader with regards to last year. Christmas has definitely become a commercial exercise and it’s a very difficult time for lots of families who are under financial pressures. The spiritual side of Christmas has in my opinion been on the retreat for a long time and I’d guess that a significant number of people don’t give the spiritual side of things any consideration. I’m more of a bah humbug kind of guy towards the commercialism but we do our bit to support the less fortunate. Wifey has made Christmas dinner for lonely and elderly neighbours, we also donate presents and gifts to the less well off.

Forgot to add, I absolutely hate New Years Eve, often brings out the worst in people.
| Christmas Thread on 11:08 - Dec 12 with 994 views | Catullus | Our Christmas will be the same as it has for 5 years, just the three of us, nothing too flash or expensive. We went down the route of asking our son specifically what he wants for Christmas, he doesn't get all of what he wants but he also doesn't get anything he doesn't want. He is much more grateful without any pretence. We have an open air beer over the garden wall with our neighbours on both sides (weather permitting) and we keep an eye on an elderly neighbour though she goes to family in England from Eve to Boxing day. We record things to watch weeks in advance and myself and my wife always watch "Its a wonderful life" and pretend for a wee while that the world is a nice place. We'll walk the dog, play board games and relax. Quiet and nice. | |

If you don't like it don't celebrate it and do what makes you happy. Life is too short to be a miserable Victor Meldrew who complains about everything

Nobody can cancel things like Christmas, Easter or eating chips, how you live your life and to what end, that is important. What your values are and how you interact with your family and close friends is what matters. Call it what you like, but people, like Boris Johnson overall shouldn’t have any effect on anything you generally do.

Anyway me look mucker ensure you keep doing what you do in your domestic life and make no mistake my thoughts are often with you and not for wanting to have a straightener behind the Rank hands and feet only. I hope to see 72 on Jan 14 th. I ll be at Huddersfield that weekend and be looking to maybe catch Russ after the game before he steps onto the coach Feliz natal

Hope you have a q shift. I’ve worked the majority of Christmas’s over the last 30 odd years and know I’ve missed a lot of family stuff. This year for the first time in many years, I am going to be off and am looking forward to it. [Post edited 13 Dec 2021 22:00]
