| Thousands of householders in Swansea to receive free money from the council ... 15:28 - Apr 22 with 1472 views | theloneranger | "Tens of thousands of householders in Swansea will receive an extra £28 in response to the cost of living crisis. The payment will be made to all council tax band A and B householders on top of the £150 that they - and band C and D householders - are getting as part of a nationwide scheme. The decision to award the £28 was made by Swansea Council's cabinet. Councils have been given Welsh Government money for discretionary support measures as well as to implement the £150 rebate." https://www.walesonline.co.uk/ | |

Not a loan so no need to repay it. If you genuinely don't need it then maybe give it to a few charities?

It's to pay for your extra fuel. I'd consider it a partial rebate for the vat you pay on fuel and enjoy it.

Let’s not bicker over a local anomaly - flats valued at between 750k and 2 million pay comparatively the same. That’s where you want to focus your anger.

Sort the valuation argument out later.

No it's not. people campaigned against the oll tax but it was fairer than council tax. We should pay for services used not based on the value of our property. Should a single person in a 2 million flat pay more for services rendered than a family of 5 in a 200k house? it seems an obscene idea to me. Singe people only get a 25% discount when they may use far less than 75% of local council services.

Perhaps because they’ve got more f*cking money???? What an idiotic stance on what basically is the solution for the tories not to tax these peoples incomes but for people like you and me to make up the shortfall.

I think there should be an element of property value involved, but certainly a fairer system lower down. Why should the couple next door to me with a higher joint household income pay less per person than I do for using the same services? A housing value element and a resident element perhaps. A 50% single occupancy discount on the base rate, with an additional 10-20% for every additional person living in the houshold above two. [Post edited 24 Apr 2022 20:13]

That is because Skewen is in NPT and Mumbles is in Swansea. Different councils have different charges. If both those councils combine then charges would be the same. Plus of course huge savings to be made by only have ONE chief executive and half the numbers of high earnings managers with all the combined departments. [Post edited 25 Apr 2022 7:31]

Then you would be wrong, since the VAT goes nowhere near where these payments for band A-D and the addition payment to band A-B householders comes from. Like someone said, it’s just another way to buy votes from the less wealthy households paid for by the wealthier band E and upwards.

So it’s the people who have worked hard and done well for themselves responsibility to pay the way for the people who have done nothing and wasted their cash who constantly beg off the system. There is a word for that “parasites “ it sounds harsh but no one can argue it’s not true, just look up the definition. It’s time people took responsibility for themselves and stopped thinking it’s other peoples responsibility to pay their way. .🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧👌

You could inherit a house mind and have a lower income than people in a less valuable house. Mind you, the way you just put it do you realise what your saying? Having more money doesn't mean you should pay more for services rendered. Having more money isn't a crime, it isn't a reason to charge people more for exactly the same thing. There's an elderly couple living in a house down the road from us, on Wern Road, it's in a higher band and they pay more council tax than us but our income is twice theirs, is that fair? There's 2 of them but 3 of us and we have more income but they pay more, come on brynnie, is that fair? No wonder people turned away from labour, myself included, when their answer always seems to be charge the more succesful people more for exactly the same service. Perhaps Brynnie would be happy to pay more for his season ticket than somebody less well off, what about more for his beer, petrol, food...come on Brynnie, you've got more money so pay up!
