Despite the fact when Russell Martin eventually saw value in playing Joel Piroe and Michael Obafemi together - no matter what they did to win games they were being let down by their team mates at the back. 0 The defence ? The issue is not in the quality of players but the system it self is totally flawed. Whilst I have some sympathy for him as he may be working with a hand tied behind his back with players such a s Bennet given the whispers re contract annd number of appearances Martin cannot be excused for messing up players like Rhys Williams who as you say arrived with Champions as well as Premier league experience yet Our illustrious manager chose to play him out of position. HE selected both Williams and Cabango to play on the opposite fo defnce to their "natural" positions ie Williams on the right and Cabango on the left whilst most of their csarrers they plyaed the opposite way arouind.....what was that all about? We gave up the lead to Bournemouth purely as we lacked height.....and we cannot still yet seem to be able to organise our defence....worrying givewn the manager/coach is an ex defender. There are obviously things going on in the background as neither Ogebeta or Burns seem to appear...the mystery over Bennet now seems to be clear despite all the guff about footballing reasons. It seems Fisher cannnot play the Martin game havong stepped up a level.....there are many reports that similar happened last season in Lg 1 at MKDons too whihc makes me wonder how Darling might perform playing this system stepping up a league. MK Dons finished with a goal difference of +2 last season despite finishing top of the possesion stats table they somehow mangaged to score only 2 more goals than they conceded. we have conceded far more goals this season than in the previous 3 and not socred that many more in fact only beating last season goals for by 2..we scored 58 for yet under Potter we managed 65 for , Coopers first season 62 and last season 56. Despite his history at MKDons and achieivng nother but average mid table finishes and the under achievemnt this season given the resources it amazes me the "slack" being given to Martin is more than generous.... I nailed my colours to the mast early doors as is well known but I have not seen anyhting which makes me think ...adding the "right" players and where are these players and who are they especially at the budget we have will not change anything. But hey ho its all opinions ....but I do find this "defence" of MArtin a little OTT

| In the defence of Russell Martin on 13:37 - May 9 with 750 views | ReslovenSwan1 | Russell Martin is a rookie coach that has not experience consistent success. His good runs have been mixed with calamitous hammerings. This should tell him his coaching potential "on his journey" is not at 100% capacity. I always suggested Cooper should stay at Swansea and improve his own game. Cooper now with legacy Forest coaches seems a different animal. Premier league teams would not give him the benefit of the doubt last summer because of rumbling accusations of turgid football from the Swansea fans base. Media personalities highlighted this. He has turned a corner which he might have been able to do in Swansea. Russell Martin has to do the same. Thee new assistant coach and DoF are not coming to reinforce Martinball but adapt it and improve it. It must work when "the players lack intensity". The system has been ruthlessly audited by Cooper twice. 9-2 with a record shot on target number. Forest cut thorough the Swans like a knife through butter, A back three and two highly rated defensive midfielders in Grimes and Downes. It does not stack up. Improved resilience is required. Harry Darling alone will not stop the next Forest charge and he must know it. The best possession teams are very hard to play against and work hard without the ball. Does Swansea work hard enough without the ball. Cooper teams scored 9 with 30 % possession. A goal every 6 minutes of possession over two games. (180 x 0.3) /9 = 6. The analysis need to study these games really closely to work out where to improve tactically. | |

You're against Martin vetchy , you should have said mun. Only kidding, I'm more inclined to agree with you unfortunately , nothing I've seen since Xmas has given me room for optimism, apart from battering Cardiff obviously.

If he is then good. Just like most of thoe of us who see an individual ruining our team and players The personal support he gets is sinister. There is no rhyme or reason for it. He does not and should not be defended. He will be gone well before any making up with fans has been done.

I did read it Keith whihch is why I discussed Rhys Williams and Fisher in my reply along with the sourcing of the "right" player to play the Martin way In your closing paragraph Especially when possession is lost and once again the emphasis and focus is on your defensive ability. We have seen this season how possession means nothing if you continually concentrate on ball retention but don’t get anywhere, we have also seen it work fantastically. These are the most important few months of Russell Martin’s football career, and he isn’t even kicking a ball. He is reliant upon players he puts his faith in to do that for him, and in his defence is where it starts. More to come on this we are certain. IT seems there is a defence of him as he doesnt have the right players? Yes you do question the funds spent on Fisher....there is criticsim of Martin in the article but it still comes across as its nothing to do with MArtin as a coach he just doesnt have right players almost giving him an excuse

It was just that the whole article was about the Swansea ‘defence’ And to that end you must have agreed, apart from of course the interpretation of the word defence. It was written for Google news by me so I thought it relevant and good enough for here.
