Friend of mine used to play in charity football games organised by Dennis . He said his drinking exploits were legendary but a lovely bloke mad as a box of frogs.

I heard stories about him and his exploits, loved a slurp and a muck about but after all of it, everyone seemed to say what a great bloke he was.

An excerpt from a news story,

Before his death, Dennis told The Mirror that after New Tricks he had moved to a smaller home in Spain and was not actively looking for work. He said: “I’m not rushing about looking for work really — I’ll see how far the money goes."

He added that he surprised himself at how well he took to enjoying early retirement: "I’ve found out a remarkable thing about myself is that I’m really, really good at doing f***-all. I’ve always sneered at people who have gone in to early retirement and thought what are you going to do, but I’ve taken to it like a duck to water.”
