Our best batsman ever

Would anyone like to disagree

Think you'll find it had to

Definitely the best. The way he manoeuvres the fielders to where he wants them while ripping them apart is a sight to behold.

Looking forward to watching Johnny with the fire as well.

Gooch, Botham, Gower, KP, Thorpe, Atherton. We've got a few to chose from.

Prob the most destructive and consistent.

Root is a ruthless run accumulator. Definitely in the conversation for England's best and probably by the time he retires in there for all time best.

Stylistically I always used to enjoy watching Ian Bell bat when he was in form as there was so much grace about him, but I'd never class him as one of the best.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Terrible shame that Hugh Morris didn't get more chances for England. Incredible player. Steve James too

England & Wales is the teams moniker, in name only.

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

I think you're doing a disservice to Johnnie Clay, Robert Croft, Jeff Jones, Simon Jones, Tony Lewis, Austin Matthews, Hugh Morris, Gilbert Parkhouse, Pat Pocock, Greg Thomas, Matthew Maynard, Maurice Turnbull, Cyril Walters, Steve Watkin and Allan Watkin
