Social compliance. It was essentially people proving they weren’t racist to their peers, just one big game. That’s what all these nonsense things are designed to do. Corporates push their brand under a banner of virtue signalling without caring about the cause at all, the consumers who feel bound to follow do so in this social media world where they also want to be front and centre or “a part” of what they deem to be a movement or cause. It’s a cycle which feeds itself on ego, attention, self centrist views and greed. Until people get bored and they jump onto the next thing. Ukraine was that thing for a while. I bet there are several people now wishing they didn’t add a Ukraine profile picture on their socials as they don’t know when they can remove it without looking shallow - but I’m sure some are desperate to replace it with a picture of them with their latest cocktail. This is the age we live in. Everyone is gullible, terrified to offend and desperate to conform.

That is a good explanation and the social media thing is true. I personally haven't changed my FB profile in four years as mine is very personal. It doesn't mean I don't care about world affairs and enter debates or show support. Some of my friends ( I only do real ones, not ones I haven't met ) change their profiles every few days

Sometime you are prone to verbosity Dr. Try this STID.. Taking the knee is/was meaningless action foisted upon players to show they go along with what is seen as the right thing these days. if wearing a turn of the head was de rigeur they would. It has outlived its market relevance. It was all about conforming. Rainbows have now taken precedence. It'll be climate change soon

I agree issues come and go, I personally support them (as I am sure many others do) because I am sympathetic or passionate about them. Sad if the club's stance isn't genuine

I might come over as rather a cynical guy They are/were simply following a trend. Footballers are very "conservative" and dont really want to stand out. One of the reason why gay footballers would never be themselves as they would have been pilloried. Its bad enough when they judge a team member by his clothes or car or girlfriend.

Swansea city parading in front of a BLM was as dull as it gets. I blame Mr Birch who was paid big money to do due diligence . This a was a direct result of demonstrations relating to the death of a particularly unpleasant black man in USA while being arrested by the police on TV. It was an anti Police agenda. In Wales another man of African origins died after been held over night in a police ell in Cardiff. This was local and relevant. No footballer in south Wales said or tweeted anything about this. 'Taking the knee' evolved from taking the knee to 'taking the knee with a fist'. Turkish international footballer took the opportunity to do a well know Turkish nationalist grey Wolves gesture to support the Turkish military occupying north Syria while adding on gestures was given a free rein.
