Don't think there are too many other countries in the world that do events like this, like we do.
Centuries of history, cannot imagine the death of a President of a British Republic having anything like this.
Whatever you may think of Prince Charles, the bloke must be under so much pressure, he's lost both his parents in the past 18 months and now every move is being watched by the world, where he has to go all over the place being publicly on display.
I bet all he wants to do is lock himself away with a bottle of wine, a big bag of chocolate and have a cry.
Saw the video of him losing his temper yesterday with a dodgy pen, felt so sorry for him when he said 'I hate this'

That may or not be correct, you call it backward, others would call it centuries of history and tradition which is woven into the British fabric.
My point was this is watched all over the world, people, especially the Americans, love this type of stuff. (on the news, people had actually travelled from all sorts of countries to be here for the funeral) Watching the hearse travelling through Scotland, is also shows off how beautiful our country is.
Other countries do have Royalty, America has it's Presidents, but no one comes close to us putting on a ceremony. America would do anything for our history

Ive not had much time for Charles but he is coming out of this well.He looks more in touch with people and I feel he will be a good King.
Problem is with many facing a tough winter,the costly P and C seems inappropriate. We do it better than any country for sure but O have doubts whether it should be done in 2022. We do not have an Empire anymore. | |

Besides, it's not medieval, the monarch doesn't run the country, you won't get beheaded for speaking out against the monarchy. Queen Elizabeth II was actually a great moderniser in many respects.
That said, if I got my way and we abolished the monarchy we could still have Pomp and Circumstance, they could go through the motions for a lot of it just to entertain the tourists, which they do in other places.
A fortunate side effect of no monarchy would be losing the honours system, no more knighthoods for donations or favours to a political party, no more failed politicians being "enobled", it would all be good. An elected second chamber should be a vast improvement but first up we'd need to improve the quality of our politicians. | |
