| The death of a dog 10:26 - Dec 6 with 2408 views | pencoedjack | There was a thread which I cant find but obviously a lot of dog lovers (& to save the happiness thread) A poster (I think it was TNT) posted this when my Weimaraner died 4 years ago, balled my eyes out but it was a nice thing to do. If it should be that I grow frail and weak And pain should keep me from my sleep, Then will you do what must be done, For this – the last battle – can’t be won. You will be sad I understand, But don’t let grief then stay your hand, For on this day, more than the rest, Your love and friendship must stand the test. We have had so many happy years, You wouldn’t want me to suffer so. When the time comes, please, let me go. Take me to where to my needs they’ll tend, Only, stay with me till the end And hold me firm and speak to me Until my eyes no longer see. I know in time you will agree It is a kindness you do to me. Although my tail its last has waved, From pain and suffering I have been saved. Don’t grieve that it must be you Who has to decide this thing to do; We’ve been so close – we two – these years, Don’t let your heart hold any tears. | | | | |

| The death of a dog on 12:59 - Dec 6 with 1872 views | KeithHaynes | Our boxer dog died twenty minutes after we came back from New York this year. Just collapsed and died. No warning, nothing. He was eight. We have been encouraged by rescue centre boxer dogs Spain in the last few weeks to foster an 18 month old boxer, he is great fun and a great addition to the family here. But the pain is still there. | |

Go for it Keith, you'll not regret it. Boxers unfortunately are one of the breeds with a shortish lifespan, but amazing companions and great fun.

If you feel it’s not right please delete the thread John. As I said I found some comfort in it & the old thread was about 9 pages long if my memory is correct.

It was a fantastic thread, assuming it's still there somewhere. Lost my best mate earlier this year at ripe old age of 19, absolutely ruined me and still does but would never be without one or in my case, currently 3.

My last two Dobes just collapsed and Died, Sheba was calmly walked out the kitchen and collapsed Mrs called me, but nothing I could do sadly, I'm convinced that it was because she had taken a back seat after my eldest was born and she wasn't having the attention that she used to have, sadly I don't really know how old she was as my Brother inlaw brought her up to us as his mate couldn't keep her anymore and after a few beers a few nights earlier I said that I'd have her, wife nearly killed me Maxy came next and was just gone 11 when he passed, my youngest had been very ill in hospital for 10 days, so Max was mostly on his own at home as I was in and out, pretty sure he passed in 2013, it was a Friday and Mrs birthday she was coming home for takeaway to celebrate her birthday, we got stuck in traffic because of a serious road accident and it must have taking us nearly 2hrs to get home from Moriston hospital, we eventually got in and poor old Maxy was dead by his bed, nightmare.

Oh I’m so sorry, I’m tearing up reading these. Ricky Gervais said that ‘dogs are just full of goodness and they’re the only thing that loves you more that they love themselves’

I've a passionate love of Dobes, way above any other dogs, although I wouldn't be against a Dobe/Rottie cross or a Rottie itself, we've had 4 Dobes in the 39yrs we've been married.

There’s a dobe near us, huge, scary looking bugger, and very intimidating when he comes charging towards you, but the softest thing you’d every meet

Most you meet are like that, was working at a house safternoon and they had a Rottie, I wanted to meet him/her, but its not good with strangers, which is fair enough, but disappointing for me.

Oh it won't be getting deleted, nt unless some fool derails the intent. I read that and cried, again. it is exactly what happened with our Albie a month ago. Soft berk that I am, I have his ashes on the mantle now, trying to decide what best to do with them while at the same time not wanting to move them. That poem is lovely, it perfectly describes how every person that truly loves their friend should behave.

Our Ollie is named after Cooper! I also considered Joe, Oba and Cooper. My son preferred Ollie but the wife doesnt like it. I think his ashes are staying where they are and when the time comes Ollie will join Albie.

Somewhere under a Poona sky. Ah! my canine, total joy you were to me when as a boy we coursed the wind and ran the while, no end in sight, mile after mile. I was to you and you to me locked in a bond eternally. They never told me when you died to spare me pain in case I cried. So then to those adult fears denied you then, my childhood tears.
