What might be a good idea is if an MP earns money outside of the normal MP wages they have to give half to local good causes in their constituency

Maybe an even better idea is ( as Dr Wnston has said ) to change the rules so they cannot have outside jobs, give them another pay rise to 100k as well as compensation.

No outside jobs is surely better as the should be concentrating on ther constituents and it also reduces/removes any chance of vested interest decisions, security breaches or any other corruption.

The simple fact here is though, it's a small group of MP's earning masses of extra money, money they wouldn't be offered if not for their position.

I wonder why the Club paid Swansea east MP Carolyn Harris £900 ?

I thought it would be more than that to be honest.

The pay table throws up three questions for me:

1. Why is it dominated by Tories? (I’m guessing it’s because they’re in power so have the influence)
2. What is that numpty Andrew Mitchell doing so high up the list?
3. Why is the equally ineffectual David Lammy doing to be top of the Labour list?

“ But they will not prevent others from earning significant amounts for speeches, TV appearances and legal work.”

It should be illegal for MPs to take money for speeches or appearing on tv. Making speeches/appearances are a fundamental part of their job and therefore is already paid for by their salary.
