Fawlty Towers 18:30 - Feb 8 with 1359 viewsbritferry

Fawlty Towers is set to return to screens more than four decades after the original 12 episodes, with John Cleese once again returning to write the iconic sitcom.

The plot for the long-awaited reboot are being kept tightly under wraps, but it will, of course, see the return of the inept hotel manager Basil Fawlty, played by John, 83.

I fear, it will now be too PC to be funny. The original is dated but still so funny but he had a go at everybody, won't be able to do that now.

I can imagine people waiting with great anticipation of being offended.

If I'm honest, I never was a fan of Fawlty Towers in it's original form, so I doubt my opinion will change now that it's new PC sanitised form.

Faulty Towers was an absolute classic of its time and should remain there, can you imagine an Alf Garnett remake.

Yeah, an updated version with Cleese at 83 and his Daughter, I doubt it'll have the spark.

I'll probably have a look though.

Manuel the Barcelona Waiter , brilliantly protrayed by Andrew Sachs .

O" Reilly the dodgy Irish builder , great fun , and acted with no malice intended .

The Major , pompus old fella who loved betting on the horses , betting scenes promoted now in Sit Coms on the Beeb , unlikely , to an extent I agree .

Will watch the new episodes when broadcast , just to probably and unfairly compare what made me laugh as a a unique comedy series , loved it .

Can't see this working.

Non of the original cast is available and Cleese is getting too old. Present PC attitudes will dilute it.

I'll tune in but I suspect a massive disappointment.

I've yet to see a film remake that's a patch on the original.

Agree , very rarely do updated TV shows have the same impact as the original , Fawlty Towers was of its time and imo thats where it should stay , I can't imagine Love thy Neighbours or on the Buses ever be reproduced.
Slightly off topic One show which should have a rerun for me would be NYPD Blue , I've not been able to find it on any TV catch up channels

If it were made today it wouldn’t get past the opening credits where the naughty paperboy rearranges the letters to spell “flowery tw*ts” without being cancelled by the twitterati.

The misspelling of the hotel name on the outside sign post during the opening credits was always funny. I wonder if they will still carry on with that idea.

I believe that this return is Cleese's last hurrah before he sadly fades away . he's quite vociferous in his views about today's society and wokeism in particular , so I would expect some so called "controversy" somewhere in an episode or two
