Many years ago the wife of a good friend of mine was in Stoke Mandeville Hospital after suddenly becoming paralyzed from the neck down after giving birth to their second child.
At the time, Saville was a regular visitor and fund raiser for the hospital, and my mate thought he was an absolutely wonderful guy, especially the way he was with the staff and patience.
Now, my friend is a very intelligent chap, but even after it all came out in the papers how evil Savile was, he still struggled to accept that the man was as bad as he was being painted in the press, so you are right, he was a devious, he fooled many, many people, so I can understand why the Royals, police and the general public were completely and utterly taken in by him. | |
