| Jake Bidwell on 12:48 - May 14 with 1700 views | RichardO | Cooper tried swapping Manning and Bidewell around leaving Bidewell as the full back, Manning may have been the better attacking player but hee didn't cover Bidewell defensively leaving Bidewell high and dry, Cooper swapped it back because Bidewell covered Manning better. Manning at full back in a back four is great because he concentrates on his defending and this season a number of players have covered for him when he has pushed forward. Which is why Latibeaudie swapped to play left back against WBA and PNE allowing Manning to push forward without worrying about covering, against PNE Manning reverted back to fullback but we didn't have cover for him on the left until the final substitution was made allowing Ntcham to move to a more central role with someone else covering for Manning. Bidewell did have a nice cross on him, got into the box well and was a strong player in the air defensively.May not have been the fastest but looked a lot fitter and slimmer in the first half of Martin first season by the second half he was gone. Didn't fit into the 3 at the back system but then again Wolf, Christie and Laird struggled. | | | |

Under used by Martin, big error letting him go. He has played exactly the role for Coventry at times that Martin was forcing round pegs in to square holes after he left. Always baffled me. and he chipped in with goals.

Bidwell under used by Martin & Manning under used by Cooper. Both good reliable Championship players, can we find another one to replace Manning for next season? Plus we need someone similar on the right side. [Post edited 14 May 2023 13:13]

What is good enough for many on here is not very high in fact. Swansea had both Bidwell and Goykeres and let them both go to Coventry for next to nothing. Martin and Cooper to blame. Both focusing on what the did not have instead of what was already in the building. Bidwell like Roberts was brave and strong and got blocks in when required. I think Martin like Latibaeudiere because he too does the dirty stuff. I recalled Bidwall putting a peach of a cross into Cullen who should have buried it. Ayew would have Roberts would have but Cullen did not want to get hurt. Two season ago so hopefully he has toughened up. Both Cullen and Piroe do not like heading the ball.

Not by me, I was incredibly surprised that we kept with Manning over Bidwell. I was probably favourable to Bidwell too, not an expansive player by any means, but he was pretty solid all round and could be relied upon.

Goykeres was never our player so i cant see how we let him go for next to nothing, just saying like.

If we wanted him we could have signed him but our manager didn't rate him.

But as BJ said gyokores was never our player so that put pay to your point. Bidwell however is another question altogether, I for one rated him highly, I was surprised when Martin allowed him to leave, I bet he regrets it now.

I didn't say that he was our player, only that Cooper didn't rate him & that we could have signed him if he wanted him. We had a bigger budget than Cov. I agree that we should have kept Bidwell.
| Jake Bidwell on 20:53 - May 14 with 1230 views | EagleEye | Bidwell was a decent performer for us. He was almost certainly ‘let go’ because his wages were quite high. The decision was taken out of the hands of RM & made by others | | | |

Depend on where you sit in the ground, everyone around me thought it was crazy to move him on .

He was in the Swansea club and available for £1m -£1.5m. They may have also had an option. It was known he had little future at Brighton. Copper did not fancy him or his potential and sent him back. This was a mistake by Cooper. Potter and Martin have made the same mistakes in fancying costly players at other clubs with out checking out what was already available in the building. Potter. Asoro in £2m James much better Potter John £1m Roberts much better. Cooper Keinan Davis £3m , Goykeres better and cheaper . Martin Fisher £400k Benda better. Martin Darling £1.5m Cabango better Wood free. I read somewhere the owners asked the cub insiders to check what was at Fairwood and the Morfa academy before splashing the cash. Rangers and Plymouth see something in Whittaker that Martin does not. What happens in Wasiri Williams, Joseph and Brandon Cooper fulfill their potential next season when player usually do at 22-24. I liked him as a player but felt his fitness with us was an issue. Where I was sitting he seemed to be blowing out of his backside in many games. He seemed much fitter with Coventry.

When he was at Swansea he pulled up no trees and i'm pretty sure all on here would have been a little miffed if we'd splurged 1.5 mil on him with the finances as they were at the time, and don't tell me the yanks should have taken the gamble cos they wouldn't have in a million years.

Not pulling up trees as an attacking player under Cooper is hardly a condemnation.

Bidwell is part of a play off side that might get promoted to the Premier League Manning isn’t . Bidwell wasn’t loved by many and few wanted to keep him. Some are upset with Manning wanting to move on He wants more money

But, Manning is named in the EFL team of the season. And who can blame Manning wanting to do the best for his family, its a short career

I was refering to Goykeres not Bidwell
| Jake Bidwell on 12:59 - May 15 with 863 views | ReslovenSwan1 | Goykeres was the Whittaker of his day. Given fleeting chances and generally not trusted or given any encouragement to stay. It is not because Martin did not sign him either as Martin loves Piroe and Latibeaudiere and Benda and he did not sing them either. Cooper prefered Lowe who played his best football at Swansea and like Bidwell sort of accepted he had no future Swansea the moment Martin walked through the door. The same happened to Kuqi when Brendan arrived. Martin no wants pace up top and Lowe at face value provided it but probably was not careful enough in possession perhaps. The only criticism Martin ha made of Whittaker is that "he does not believe enough" . Perhaps he is referring to Martinball. Perhaps training ground body language when asked to follow certain tactics. Martin ball can work against lower and mid table teams. Against better teams with a better press it has not to date been a success. The end of the season run had no top 3 teams. | |
