Being credited with Coventry City’s resurgence this second half of the season.
I always thought he was the right fit for what Martin wanted, he is at Coventry and is a real fans favourite.

Cooper tried swapping Manning and Bidewell around leaving Bidewell as the full back, Manning may have been the better attacking player but hee didn't cover Bidewell defensively leaving Bidewell high and dry, Cooper swapped it back because Bidewell covered Manning better.
Manning at full back in a back four is great because he concentrates on his defending and this season a number of players have covered for him when he has pushed forward. Which is why Latibeaudie swapped to play left back against WBA and PNE allowing Manning to push forward without worrying about covering, against PNE Manning reverted back to fullback but we didn't have cover for him on the left until the final substitution was made allowing Ntcham to move to a more central role with someone else covering for Manning.
Bidewell did have a nice cross on him, got into the box well and was a strong player in the air defensively.May not have been the fastest but looked a lot fitter and slimmer in the first half of Martin first season by the second half he was gone. Didn't fit into the 3 at the back system but then again Wolf, Christie and Laird struggled. |  | | |

Both good reliable Championship players, can we find another one to replace Manning for next season?

Not by me, I was incredibly surprised that we kept with Manning over Bidwell. I was probably favourable to Bidwell too, not an expansive player by any means, but he was pretty solid all round and could be relied upon. | |

I didn't say that he was our player, only that Cooper didn't rate him & that we could have signed him if he wanted him. We had a bigger budget than Cov.

He was in the Swansea club and available for £1m -£1.5m. They may have also had an option. It was known he had little future at Brighton.
Copper did not fancy him or his potential and sent him back. This was a mistake by Cooper. Potter and Martin have made the same mistakes in fancying costly players at other clubs with out checking out what was already available in the building.

Cooper Keinan Davis £3m , Goykeres better and cheaper .
Martin Fisher £400k Benda better.
Martin Darling £1.5m Cabango better Wood free.
I read somewhere the owners asked the cub insiders to check what was at Fairwood and the Morfa academy before splashing the cash. Rangers and Plymouth see something in Whittaker that Martin does not.

Goykeres was the Whittaker of his day. Given fleeting chances and generally not trusted or given any encouragement to stay.
It is not because Martin did not sign him either as Martin loves Piroe and Latibeaudiere and Benda and he did not sing them either.
Cooper prefered Lowe who played his best football at Swansea and like Bidwell sort of accepted he had no future Swansea the moment Martin walked through the door. The same happened to Kuqi when Brendan arrived.
Martin no wants pace up top and Lowe at face value provided it but probably was not careful enough in possession perhaps.
The only criticism Martin ha made of Whittaker is that "he does not believe enough" . Perhaps he is referring to Martinball. Perhaps training ground body language when asked to follow certain tactics.
Martin ball can work against lower and mid table teams. Against better teams with a better press it has not to date been a success. The end of the season run had no top 3 teams. | |
