Paul Abbandonato: Aaron Ramsey rivals Craig Bellamy as biggest Welsh club signing in history

Only Cardiff City, outside of the Premier League, appear able to entertain these sensational talks with stellar footballers.

For a Championship team, it's extraordinary really that they landed Craig Bellamy, came close to Gareth Bale and are on the brink with Aaron Ramsey.

Bellamy rocked the football world when he joined his home-town club first while a Manchester City player, then as a Liverpool footballer who was still a major part of then manager Brendan Rodgers' Anfield plans.

Bale was on the verge of a deal last summer, having agreed terms with Cardiff. He always had a USA option on the table too and opted to go Stateside instead, which was fair enough. But the very fact he even conducted such advanced talks with the Bluebirds was a stunning development.

Over the next 24 hours or so, last-minute glitches hopefully overcome, the Bluebirds plan to announce Ramsey as their player.

Bellamy was captain of Wales when he joined. So too Bale when he held talks. Ramsey, of course, holds the armband today. Which other Championship clubs can entertain these kind of truly marquee signings ? I'm certainly not aware of too many.

He forgot to mention a clapped out Robbie Fowler and them 3 goals he scored in the 2007 season.

I don’t in any way blame them for reporting it.
I don’t even blame them for being overly happy about it.

And I will admit Paul has helped both Phil and I when we released books way back for which I’m indebted.

But it’s utter madness this report.

Biggest Welsh Club signing in history. Now what about a 28 year old John Toshack from Liverpool. Tommy Smith, Ian Callaghan when we were in the 3rd Division. Leighton James, Ray Kennedy, Emlyn Hughes. A relatively unknown Michu who rocked the Premier League and scored a hat full of brilliant goals.

Didn't Wolves sign Ruben Neves while he was at the top of his game. Surely that would be the biggest championship marquee signing, rather than a clapped out Ramsey.

Glad he helped you but he is an utter cock.

Not sure why he classes himself as a national journalist he only ever reports on the Bassey's.

Hmmmmmm

"You could go back in time, to 1978, and argue Swansea coaxing John Toshack away from Liverpool and into the old Fourth Division as player-manager was as big as it gets for the Welsh game. Yes Tosh's best days were well behind him, but he was still only 29 and could easily have played at a higher level. "

Its all part of the marketing ploy to con them into buying season tickets.

Lol, celebrating the fact that Bale turned them down. If a clapped-out underachiever like Ramsey is a marquee signing then the Swans signing of the former Liverpool midfielder and Wales’s midfield maestro Joe Allen must give him a massive stiffy.

‘……. like a moth to Itchy’s flame ……’

But not the swans.

Hes a fat gobshite, who like most things kerdiff doesn't give any news about the biggest team in Wales.

He knows it, they know it, we know it but most important of all Wales know it.

Swansea are the biggest, most successful team in Wales.

Strange Reuters don’t seem to have picked up on this. There’s been no statement from the White House either.

When you think what players we've been blessed to have to wear the shirt then it makes them look really silly when they come out with the nonsense they do .

Season tickets sold has no bearing on where you finish in the table, nor does the size if the concourse.

But their reaction will be hands to their ears shouting la la la la.

We are and always will be the biggest club in Wales, they will never accept it even if we get back into and win the PL.

Just leave them to wallow in the sh!t they deserve to be in.

They WERE bigger before you were born.
They had 50000 when they were in the old First Division.
Size ain’t everything though

These days, they are footballing nonentities ,to me anyway .

I’d rather the six easy points they give us every year.
