Could it become a reality or is it only a pipedream. It's good to see that they are talking about the link between bus and rail travel in Wales.

"Transport for Wales was therefore, he said, studying bus networks with a view to making them more coherent. The aim was also to better integrate rail and bus travel with passengers able to buy one ticket for both modes of travel",

The current system is currently just plain ridiculous as I posted on the Welsh tourism thread, in response to Gwynn's question.

It would be great, but certainly from a train line point of view I can't see it working.

Apparently due to the railway infrastructre there is only one way the trains can move, so for example, to get from Morriston (or anywhere west) to Landore or the city centre you'd have to go via Llansamlet, Llandarcy, Neath and Skewen.

There is a north of Swansea train line in use currently. You can catch a train from Carmarthen to Cardiff stopping at Llanelli, Port Talbot, Pyle and Bridgend only and bypassing Swansea completely. Expensive but there must be a way of linking up the lines.

EDIT

This is a report from a couple of years ago with a map of possible routes.

It wouldn't be profitable. Why would anyone want to go to Swansea?

Like most commuter lines, to work. If the Senedd are serious about reducing road traffic, pollution and road accidents this is the obvious way forward using the system as a park and ride. The whole point of the Cardiff metro which they are backing.

Once they realise how much over budget the Cardiff Metro will go the Swansea one will be quietly done away with.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Aye and when it comes to the 'public sector' and 'governmental finance' things often go over-budget by scandalous percentages that absolutely beggars belief.

But hey, we are talking about the likes of Mark Drakeford here who is more likely to be headhunted by Real Madrid as a centre forward than ever he is being acquisitioned by big business or FTSE 100 companies in need of his expertise.

Look how that Adam Price failed once he ventured out into the real world.

If any of the current Welsh Government (I'm 100% serious!) ministers were to be appointed the head of any prestigious company there would be a guaranteed future 'profit warning'. Could you imagine buying £10,000 worth of British Aerospace shares only to learn a week or two after that Mark Drakeford is to be appointed as its new CEO?

This is why the Senedd should be investing in the infrastructure Wales wide. If they want cars off the road then public transport has to be able to take the strain AND not be more expensive or significantly more expensive than owning a car.

I’d rather not
Frankly I get rather irked by a few posters coming up with pitifully shallow “ defence” of anything Welsh.
They have not replied to the more articulate posters like your good self .

There is a sad irony that the lack of outrage from YesCymru types for example regarding the abandonment of the relief road project and the waste of £114 million on feastabilty and pre-planning, truly shows that some people are more than happy for Wales to decline into ever more ruination.

Maybe its some form of 'nationalistic Jonah Complex' or perhaps they just want an enemy like England to hate because they get some form of sadistic satisfaction or fix from it? The more Wales rots in the gutter the more they can hate and blame England?

There is even more irony by the very fact that some that identify themselves to be Welsh nationalist and patriotic seem to care the least of all about the future of their beloved nations children, public services, infrastructure and economy.

The most telling thing for me was the anger aimed at Westminster (Westmonster to them) when it said it wanted to see a relief road that would benefit both Wales and England and offered to help pay for it.

It's the same warped thinking and hypocrisy seen with many Republican dissidents who John Grieve pointed out wanted a return of roadblocks, watchtowers, the troubles along with the (Troops out? Nah!!!) British army back on the streets. That need to hate someone and something again I guess?

The contempt that Wales CBI and Welsh business leaders have for the likes of Drakeford says it all to me!

The bloke is a complete and utter imbecile! He is a guy whom has shown no concern whatsoever with (Wales This Week reporting) a Welsh transport system that belongs vastly more to a time when people were still playing 78rpm records on 5 foot wooden radiogrames.

The point you make about projects going over budget is valid, but it’s not just the WG look at Crossrail, HS2, MOD contract for the Ajax the new armoured personal carrier, Channel Tunnel etc etc.

Fair point about Adam Price, but we’ve got MP’s and a Cabinet Minister in the current government who’s had failed businesses.

I agree and I’d sack a fair few of them, but by the same measure look at some of the buffoons we have in Westminster.
If you want to talk about causing damage and decreasing value look at what happened to the country after the Truss/Kwarteng budget.
By the way, interesting to read today the guy who was in charge of the civil servants at the Treasury (Tom Scholar) and who as sacked by Truss and Kwarteng got a £350k pay off from the tax payer. We’re paying through the nose for their ineptness!!!

That the Cardiff Metro will inevitably run over budget is not a condemnation of the Senedd. These things tend to cost more than planned no matter who manages them.

It takes little or no stretch of the imagination however to conclude that the budget to finish the one in Cardiff will be found at the expense of schemes elsewhere. When all is said and done we might get a couple of extra bus stops and maybe a train halt in Morriston.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Trams between Cadiz and Chiclana de la frontera share a train line for part of the way. It took ten years to complete though. Ever get the feeling some initiatives may well be completed when a few daisies are being pushed up ?

Sadly it doesn't matter which government you look at. They all have varying degrees of ineptness.

The Senedd, Westminster, the USA Senate, the EU, all of them have questions to answer about how they spend the peoples money.

Devolution has been truly shocking p1ssing money down the drain, wasting it and losing it when it should have been better spent properly in a way that could have truly impacted people's lives and the nations wellbeing.

Not only that, i.e the very way Wales has been made to sink ever deeper and decline with everything that was once before devolution had even started.

And the way the country has been divided in a way like never before! What will it be like in twenty years time? It's an horrendous sh1tshow!
