Sometimes we think there is a stereotype that does not really exist, but then real cases are exposed.

The Government has taken a first step in tightening the rules of the Motability scheme but there is more to do, especially with PIPs.

This lady has so far re-paid just £120 towards the cost of the goodies she enjoyed at taxpayers' expense.

I wonder how many of those screaming outrage are the very same who are so welcoming of those from far away lands ,scewing the state and the taxpayer.

"In a free society, the State is the servant of the people—not the master."

Looks like only those on benefits will get help with their electricity and gas bills, while hard working families will not doubt have to pay more tax to cover this.

It absolutely is the right word.

She’s repaid £120 from benefits she’s still getting!

It makes my blood boil. She’ll never pay back what she owes at £5 or £10 a week and it’s unlikely anyone will give her a job as she’s been outed as a thief. She needs a stretch, but given that’s she’s had that suspended she needs a huge amount of community service so we can get back what’s owed in other ways, £23k equates to a year of work on minimum wage, which is something 1900 hours work - she should do the equivalent in litter picking over a 2 or 3 year period.

This case is not untypical and does not surprise me in the slightest. Not even the bit about someone claiming to be so anxious that she can't leave the house yet still applying for and getting a free BMW and not one single process being in place to cross reference that contradiction.

A conviction for benefit fraud of any kind should result in closure of all claims and prohibition from making another one for a period of five years. Life for a second offence.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

I agree with what you’re saying, but it won’t happen. She shouldn’t be anywhere near a BMW on Motorbility, there needs to be a huge review of benefits - it should be a safety net not a way for shirkers and thieves to live the life of Riley.

Whilst reporting benefit thieves like her to the authorities should be one’s civic duty, many people won’t do it - to counter that I’d be more than happy to see cash rewards given to people who’ve reported a benefit cheat AFTER a successful investigation and prosecution. It could be totally anonymous and administered via Crime Stoppers. It could save us a lot of money and prove to be very cost effective.

Mobility vehicles should, in the overwhelming majority of cases, be for physical disabilities only. Applications for other purposes may be considered, but with a much stronger application process. For example, I think it would be reasonable for an autistic child's family to be able to apply as public transport (if no other vehicle is available) might not be an option. A free car for anxiety, stress or depression? No chance.

There is currently an expansion going on in the Counter Fraud, Compliance and Debt (CFCD) part of DWP so they are putting resources into it, but you would not believe the legislative minefield that investigators have to go through to build a case. To the point where a lot of fraud cases get downgraded to lesser offences/punishments. They're also still wading through a lot of the stuff that went on during Covid. Could tell some enraging stories about that.

People do want to report cheats. I'd say the average month for me sees three or four people walking or writing in to do it. Many others do it online.

The Motability abuse us endless. There are parents who have Motability cars because of a child's entitlement then have a paid taxi to ferry them back and fro to school.

And people don’t always realise that those taxi’s cost £25k a year.

It’s scandalous.

You wonder why these things are not cross referenced. It's pretty simple these days to run a matching exercise and you would only need to do it once a month or even less often?

As someone who is employed and goes out to earn a living in the private sector I'd say I ham getting hit from all sides.

More and more of my work is over the bridge these days, the M4 is so difficult that I have started to stay away for work in Bristol and Avon particularly at the end of the week.

I'm lucky that the clients seem happy to pay for overnight accommodation. One of our HGV drivers now gets up at 3:30 am to make sure he can get deliveries on site the same day.....it's nuts.

To be honest I don’t think it matters where you work at the moment, if you’re currently in employment and grafting you’re getting hit from all sides. It just seems to me that I’ve been squeezed for 17 years, doing more for less.

The Mobility Car scheme is an utter joke , I have seen how the system is abused and used by anyone clued up enough to milk the system . they know all the small print and use it .

If I wanted any help in a crisis , thankfully not needed as yet but probably any claim I would put in end up as the second word being Off .

The benefit system stinks to the core , any Politicians ready to challenge the current rules .

Their silence is deafening as with the small boats invasion , lets keep it quiet .

Luckily Starmer is now on the back pages as World events give him a short term breather to get off the front pages .

And a free bus pass. Three different ways to get to the same place, all paid for by the tax payer.
