Didn't Sunderland go straight down?
| Leicester on the brink on 12:22 - Apr 15 with 2321 views | KeithHaynes | It’s possibly time for Swansea fans to have a sit down and be happy with the clubs progress, even if that is maintaining Championship status because far bigger clubs, bar Cardiff have fallen over the past five years. Be careful what you wish for. | |

It does indeed, and although nowhere near as big a club as the Swans, Luton couldn’t manage anything near the form of Lincoln with their second year of premier league payments in League One. Yes, Derby, Sunderland and what looks like Leicester, better supported clubs than any in Wales have tasted or could taste the same medicine. Then there’s Coventry with 3k - 5k gates when they played at Birmingham, they did improve at Northampton but they were League Two.

Didn’t Leicester slip into league one after 15 years ago? In to admin etc then bounced back up to the PL and eventually won the league? Forest, Man City, Leeds have all sampled it, it’s not exclusive. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Leicester won the league with the use of a Swansea City player on loan.

I believe Swans fans of a certain age are happy with us being a mid table championship side. I for one would of bitten your hand off for tier 2 when we were playing the likes of Halifax, Aldershot & Exeter on a regular basis.

Yeah I recall…I’m sure they had a previous points deduction and got relegated to league 1 before there rise back debt free, or was that Southampton…..

20 years ago I would have agreed with you without a doubt but times have changed. We are running on the edge of PSR with losses averaging £13M a season this is being paid for by the owners, they are not doing it out of the goodness of their hearts. Snoop Dogg, Modric and Martha have not got on board to be a mid table championship club, because if thats where we stay in the medium/long term they will jump ship. Yes they can afford to write the money off but nobody want to be associated with failure and thats what it will seem to them if we remain mid table. We can already see senior management changes this season and apparently there are more to come, our owners are ruthless. Our recruitment model is when buying a player we pay some up front and pay the rest over the term of the contract, basically rolling the debt onto future seasons. If things don't improve and our owners get fed up and walk we won't be such an attractive proposition, mid table and ongoing debt. So yes I have always thought I would be happy as a mid table championship club with the odd cup run and flirting with promotion but the football landscape has changed dramatically in recent years, stability is often deemed as failure now.

I’m saying for this season though since the majority owners and the reshuffle occurred. Nothing happens overnight. I don’t see any negatives in the direction the club is going. We are far and away in a better position than many championship clubs. The Swans surpassed their income for 2024/25 season in December 2025 with six months to go. There was a rebuild last summer where players were brought in who in time if sold will cover the whole of the clubs debt or close to it. Then there’s Eom, Vipotnik, Franco Cabango and quite a few more worth decent amounts of money. We are at a stage now where as I said maybe just take a breath and then look forwards to more progress over the summer and gauge it all in 2027. I agree with your comment. It is a fact. We were there and no doubt well before.

Absolutely my first game was 1969. Over that period of time spent most of our seasons in the lower reaches. 1999 30years on that generation would certainly see it differently.

I completely agree with this. I always try to look at things in a positive way because it's better than the alternative. If the owners do buy the stadium I imagine one of the first things they'll want to do is get a new naming rights deal. That would be really lucrative and i'd imagine MM would be flexible re the current deal if it helps the Club. And the plan with the Fan Zone is to have it up and running for next season (that's what it says in the planning application). Put those things together with the substantial commercial revenue increase that Keith refers to and the Clubs income next season will be very much improved. And then if the team continues to improve gate revenue will increase as well. Every 1000 on the average gate for the season is about half a million. Let's hope it's 3/4000 .
