Long Covid 10:11 - Oct 13 with 1245 viewsCatullus

I came across this, looking for something else, and when I read the symptoms it was a shocker. I, like several others, thought I had something around Christmas that ws different, not normal Flu. We speculated it may have been covid linked but were told it was probably aussie flu. When I read this story, looked at the long list of symptoms I rlaised myself and my wife have had may of them and still do have some,

https://www.walesonline.co.uk/

so read for yourself and see. I should also say that several of those symptoms cross over with Fibromyalgia, which I have. But myself and my wife have had, between us, many of those symptoms.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Please accept my sympathy for your condition, my son also has Fibromyalgia and it is a bitch to live with.
I am convinced that his was brought on by multiple cases of RSI and other injuries. The pain overloaded his brain and immune system to bring it on.
Do you take Vitamin B12?

Do you also have arthritis with it?

Yes I have arthritis too. I deal with the fibro by trying to stay positive, don't give in to it and remember to smile! It won't work for everyone.
I don't take supplements at all, my doctor says I don't need to.

However, this isn't about me, I was wondering if anyone else out there was having these symptoms who also thought they may have had "something" around Christmas last.

Apparently there is test you can have to see if you have ever had it. My sister had it in Cardiff. Thinks it costs £40.

I appreciate that, but I wanted to make sure that you were aware of the affects of low Vitamin B12, he was seen by many doctors and it took an old private specialist at the St Maria to pick up it was low compared to current thinking. His GP gave him B12 injections which made him feel a lot better, especially where his headaches and loss of limb use was concerned.

So I tested positive for Covid last Thursday, was locked down from the Tuesday due to my boss showing symptoms ie bad cough sneezing tired and a cold He tested positive Wednesday, he had been to turkey a week or so before ,for me it was Monday Tuesday very minor cold however Wednesday I woke up with the worst headache ever and was absolutely shattered slept all day and all night ( no old mans piss) Completely lost my sense of smell Thursday got up still had a bad head walked to my car about 200 meters went for test parked up and walked back to room that wore me out had to have an hour , symptoms Thursday were headache , Aching bones in hands and arms , glands in groin throbbing , still no smell and slight cold , Friday , Saturday slight headache and a little bit of a cold And Sunday I felt almost normal again Smell had returned , yesterday I broke out in a sweat for honestly about 5 minutes and that seems to be the last of it , I am still in lock down until Monday . Can’t comment on after effects just yet What I will say is Covid for me was not half as bad as the One time back in 2009 that I had Flu

I suffered last last Autumn into the winter with a severe chest infection along with a continuous cough ( which my Doctor prescribed four lots of antibiotics an asthma pump and steroids non of which appeared to work. My lung function seemed to be at half capacity at times and to be honest it was bit frightening. I'm not saying that it was covid but I do now suffer from some of the symptoms identified ,Also I had to have a CT recently which picked up two small shadows on my lungs ( thankfully not cancer) but nodules formed from an infection ,how long they've been there I couldn't say but its only recently that my chest seems to have lost the rattle and the continuous production of mucus .

Yes I had something around Xmas time, that had some of the symptoms mentioned, and yes I personally believe that I may have had the thing, as at times I feel like the post virus symptoms, at times I am arguing with myself that its due to old age and other reasons!!!! but deep down feel its due to this virus thingy.

Have many of the boys gone down with it? I’m guessing if it’s in barracks it will go through the battalion like shit through a goose!

Bloody hell, I've had it thousands of times.

Pretty sure I picked it up in Malta earlier this year, thought it could have been the airport but the more I think about it the more I believe it was on a local bus where there were also some Italians one of whom got off because she was being sick.

Had a stinging inside my nose, for 2 days, the about a week later, lost my sense of smell and taste, got up from bed and felt as though I’d been thrown around on a judo mat, sore throat then I had a slight cough, stinging sensation between my throat and lungs and shortness of breath for a few days. More recently I have suffered a bad chest for nigh on 6 weeks, coughing and occasional shortage of breath. I know some who have had it with no symptoms, 1 who nearly died and a mates relative died of it. It’s a hell of a thing.

Flipping heck, WOL have posted nearly every ailment I could think of.

And a group set up to help survivors post-virus, which now has 3,000 members from more than 60 countries, has said it has counted 172 symptoms displayed by those suffering long-term effects of the virus.

Post Covid Syndrome Group creator Louise, who has not given her surname, told the Daily Mirror: "People are experiencing so many symptoms - we've counted 172.

"GPs aren't believing them, they say they're making it up.

"Employers have no idea what these people are going through either."

3,000 members 60 countries, file under codswallop. Once you see toothache, and ear ache how can anyone take WOL seriously.

And sorry Cat, I feel pretty insensitive after posting that, I just lost track after reading the WOL stuff, I have never heard of Fibromyalgia before, I had to google it, sounds bloody horrific,.

Thanks, like a lot of illnesses it affects people differently. I was very bad with it the first few years but then I learned a few of the triggers and have managed to mostly cut them out of my life.

There are worse things, like MND!

Don't feel insensitive, before I was diagnosed with it I thought Fibro was a slacker making excuses...that'll teach me

It is a long list and it has symptoms that could be very many things, I expect many of us have had many of these symptoms from time to time for no apparent reason. If you had covid though the symptoms tend to stick around and affect you regularly

PS, AFD, I do appreciate that you trying to be helpful.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Funnily enough the majority of those Long COVID symptoms are also the symptoms of Fibro, ME and the Epstien-Barr virus.
All associated with the immune system going completely haywire.

Covid does provoke a strong immune response, too strong in fact which is what has caused many problems.

Have ME and Eppstein Barr been increasing too? Because Fibromyalgia is far more common these days. When I was diagnosed (2011) I didn;t know of anybody else with it but I know quite a few now.

Some people think that those with immune system problems could be more susceptible to covid, but it's guesswork I think,

I think we'll only know for sure with hindsight.

I think the like ME and Yuppy flu the docs thought people were just making it up to get a ticket off work.
There still is no definitive method of identifying fibro, it is basically a case of test for everything else to discount them and that is all you are left with.
No cure, just management
