| Swansea response to Facebook Yan Dhanda 00:04 - Feb 14 with 1021 views | KeithHaynes | Swansea City is shocked and surprised by the leniency shown by Facebook towards one of their users who racially abused a member of our playing squad," a statement read. “The abhorrent level of abuse that we have witnessed this week means that once again we seek stronger action from social media companies in order to stamp this type of toxic behaviour out and we fully back the EFL’s open letter that was sent to Twitter and Facebook in light of recent events. “It is appalling that Facebook cannot empathise more with the victim of such offensive messages and Yan Dhanda continues to have our full support at the football club as we work with South Wales Police to assist in their ongoing investigation.” The statement from the Swans has been seen by the EFL who have given the club their full backing. Dhanda played 77 minutes of the cup contest at the Liberty Stadium before being withdrawn due to a knee injury. Following the postponement of Swansea's Championship clash with Sheffield Wednesday due to a frozen pitch, head coach Steve Cooper and club captain Matt Grimes both showed their support for Dhanda. "I’ve spent the last couple of days talking with Yan, making sure he is okay and making sure he knows he has the full support of everybody at the football club,” Cooper told the club website. “The level of abuse he received was disgusting and I cannot put into words how angry I am that one of my players has suffered at the hands of somebody who thinks that racism is acceptable. “What people don’t see is the aftermath of how people are affected. Yan was visibly upset and angry but it goes beyond that. His family are affected, those closest to him are hurt and the ripples go far wider than just a media headline. | |

| Swansea response to Facebook Yan Dhanda on 16:15 - Feb 14 with 936 views | ReslovenSwan1 | Theoretically if you make your page universally accessible it is pretty much inevitable, I would have thought, to get insults and abuse. I get racist sheep stuff on my Youtube comments every now an then. I accept this as a possibility if i quote Welsh affiliations. The UK locks up about 100,000 criminals each year and probably another 100,000+ are back in the community. We have rapists, muggers, thieves, GBH people, fraudsters, paedophiles, drink drivers, murderers in soceity. Added to that we have the not very bright , religous extremists , facsists, racists, flat earthers, train spotters and a whole range of odd balls and wierdos. This is the UK today. All can get an istagram page (outside HMP) and as I understand it can stay annonymous. If Facebook wants to create a 'sewer culture' then that is the people it will attract, and normal folk and most advertisers will avoid it. Gambling, drinking and debt release firms might still be interested. I would not come onto this portal to share my wisdom until Frank Zappa was put in his box for example. He was bad for business. I suspect the perpetrator was probably not very old and that is why the media have not gone after him or her and why Facebook have not gone for a life ban. This is speculation.

I think the impact of social media is huge for the young, so its very important. It needs some regulation. That said the newspaper owners and the BBC have told people how to think for decades. Shameful right wing brainwashing. Take the knee people ✊ðŸ¾ðŸ¦¢

It is something to do if there are TV cameras around. It is a 'message' not a 'protest' aparently. Footballers up to now have been encouraged not to make messages (things on teeshirt being a booking for eample). Cenk Tosun made a fascist gesture recently supporting far right Turkish nationalist groups. Some black players not understanding it is a "message" in the FA style have converted back into a "protest" of the BLM style by adding "black power" fist symbols. It is one holy mess and players should not be encouraged to give messages to fans. The media pundits on the BBC and Talksport are virtually encouraging players to tke things into their own hands and walk off pitches despite the fact there is an established protocols in place. If the authorites give the players extra powers they are bound to take it. Its weak managment. Mr Birch is culpable. He handed over the Swansea city club to be poster boys of BLM a marxist organisation. He judgement was poor in this case. [Post edited 15 Feb 2021 12:58]

Why do some players do a fist and other not do a raised fist? All for one its a team sport, no factions no splinter groups no separate gestures depending on skin colour. One for the leadership group I would say.

Well I hope it ends when I get down there as we pay their wages. It’s baffling how, there are many way to show support against racism, yet they persist on the knee after the bad reaction it’s got everywhere. It’s all pressure to build the BLM movement. Racism is extremely rare in sport, no more than in normal life. It only seems big because sky news run 45 minutes of their program for each incident, so I don’t see why it’s a massive issue. Just suck it up and block the user, it’s what me and many other millions of normal people have done when receiving death threats or abuse.

The club clearly supported the BLM movement in the summer of 2020 because they were copying other people and did not do their homework. THe BLM 'own' taking the knee in public perception. I still see the giant BLM logo on the Swansea training field on the Anti racist facebook page. Effectively the FA stole it and re packaged it but it is too late. The public still see images of George Floyd choking to death. The club can say what they like but it make no difference. It wuld have been wiser to come up with 'Kick it out' activity. The death of Mohanud Hassan in Cardiff last month seems to have flown under the radar. [Post edited 17 Feb 2021 13:30]

Disagree. BLM ‘own’ taking the knee in some people’s perception. Personally, I think it has lost some of its power and direction. However, I’m happy to respect what the club have said about their upcoming actions. It would be ironic if after the clarity has been given, people against politics in football boo. They would be the ones (in this instance) being political.
