| Triangles 07:35 - Mar 17 with 1347 views | builthjack | For many years, that's how we played. Pass, move, triangles. Make the opposition work, outfox them. It's now hoof or 3 or 4 passes and lose it. Our identity has completely gone. | |

Not quite. If I can be mathematical here for a moment, we are still playing triangles. Unfortunately they are defensive, nervous triangles - the base is across the field and the apex is behind the base, ie we pass once or twice sideways and then the ball goes back to a player in space. The apex is very rarely in front of the base - an attacking triangle. To make matters worse, last night the sides of the triangle were no more than about 3 yards. We played very short passes usually crowded right on the touch-line until possession was lost - the equivalent of disappearing up your own a***. One of the few players we have who tries to play attacking triangles is the much maligned Dhanda. To maintain triangular play our players must be better at making themselves available in space and controlling the ball when it comes to them, and the passer needs to pass accurately and with good weight. We do it occasionally, but not enough. I meant to add that we had a master-class in triangular attacking play recently from the imperious Manchester City. Of course they have better players but they do nothing fancy, just pass accurately and ensure they move into space to make themselves available. [Post edited 17 Mar 2021 10:03]

Maybe we should abandon geometry and go down the Algebra route. We could always try Trig though.

The game dissected. 17th Mar 2021 10:35This wasn’t the be all and end all of games, it wasn’t even a defining moment in the season that has seen the swans in contention again for the premier league. What it was last night on the south coast of England was confirmation that Swansea City, despite their desire to win every game possible haven’t got the tools to do so. The swans will make the play offs but any more matches like the one we witnessed last night in Bournemouth, and indeed at Huddersfield and it will be another tale of so close but so far. 2

I bet you’re totally au fait with calculations of goal differences and why Watford have the edge over us even with our game in hand? In the old days of course, it used to be goal AVERAGES that were used and they were a bit more difficult to calculate and compare. In short, you can’t live life without an appreciation of numbers - taking out a mortgage or calculating APR, placing a bet and appreciating the odds, we use arithmetic daily.

Its 3 sideways passes then back to Woody to hoof into touch. Bit like watching the rugby.

Yes but Biggar and Sheedy do it for a purpose. It clears danger ,as to what Woody does, which is to roll the ball to players who are being pressed or simply ,to ave time, just passes it straight to the opposition. Last night, after half time, his first kick was into touch then his next straight to a forward in centre field. And this is tolerated! Loved even. No team can hope to play like this. Rest assured MM will already be preparing to attack Woody at every occasion .He ,God help me,needs to clear the ball -hoof it ,if you like,as far upfield as possible. Moore is one I fear as I do Morrison who is a real bully .Flint is an animal who will also need reining in by a strong referee ,which reminds me we need a good strong ref this Saturday .

| Triangles on 12:07 - Mar 17 with 709 views | Joe_bradshaw | It makes a massive difference when you have a Leon in your team. Pass and move is the most basic of football philosophies but the move part seems to be a bit too much for many of our players. Pass and move to space should be rammed down their throats constantly. Players who played with Leon knew that if they found themselves in possession with limited options there would always be at least one because Leon would have moved into space and would make himself available. A real players’ player who must have been a dream to play with. Lack of movement off the ball is an issue with our current team and it’s why we can’t seem to keep possession for a reasonable amount of time especially when we’re under pressure. Good teams give the ball carrier numerous options, supporters sometimes abuse the ball carrier for losing possession when he hasn’t been given any option except a speculative punt upfield in the general direction of a white shirt. We’ve lost our identity again. | |

Leon is right up there with our greatest ever.Possibly the best servant ever of our club,It is awful that he is no longer part of the club and Im sure he'd really love to be so . One thing for sure;he was planets ahead of what we have now.

pass and move is what we teach 8 year olds these days. Its basic, but works. Cooper and/or our players seem to have forgotten how to do it. Most of them.

Leon almost said the same himself. He was operating at executive level, a lot different to dominating a football match as he did a lot of the time with better passing stats than Messi ( fact ) Office work with people who have lived that life away from the alleged coal face we all know doesn’t suit everyone. That was my and his point for leaving. Nothing to do with ability on the pitch.
