He is a terrific pro and a loyal player.
He is IMO overated and I feel we have a ready made replacement in Downes.If we are cute,we could sell Grimes for a decent fee and get a ready made player to drive us forward,a striker even.
Grimes would go with all good wishes and would ,I would suggest,always have respect as a man and player,which is a good enough legacy.
This is a tough business and no place for sentiment.
If only Walsh was not o injury prone,this would be a no brainer as we have cover for Grimes.
If he is to be sold,please God,let us get a respectful fee for who has been a great servant for our club. | |

Fulham might be inclined to put in a cheeky derisory last minute bid on the last day and hope no one else is in the market. Swansea, if the have promotion as a realistic objective, may bite the bullet and reject it. Something similar happened with Pratley in 2010. He and De Vries ran down their deals and left anyway when Swansea got promoted.
I would have preferred a £1.5m sale back then but Brendan knew better and Pratley ended his time with that wonderful goal v Forest and other big performances. |  |
