That ball across the back when under pressure is clearly instruction rather than desire, it wasn’t too dissimilar to Naughton giving the ball away by making the risky (but pointless) inside pass when under pressure across the face of the pitch. The slow passing, the reluctance to go long despite the press. It’s all clearly the game plan, a game plan that unfortunately shows time and time again that it doesn’t work, and has never shown to work under his management. MK Dons are now 7th. Russell couldn’t get them in the top half playing that way, so I’m not entirely sure why people are convinced this style is effective when it has shown itself to be anything but, year on year.

Team examined and Swansea City transfe on 11:31 - Jan 9 with 790 views | Thornburyswan | The play offs have long since sailed into the distance so wouldn’t worry too much about that - suspect the focus of this window will be the defence with new goalkeeper & two WBs needed following Laird’s recall. With finances as they are I imagine we need to exit a few from the wage bill below doing too much, if Benda, Bidders & Williams (Rhys) we’re all to exit then that would free up the wages (plus Lairds) to cover the defence options with I guess Cooper to cover Williams. Further forward Joseph back to cover Whitaker’s loan so we’ll need to see some of Dhanda, Fulton & Cullen to go before we add new options. Might be a busy last 10/14 days of the month.

But last night we did go long without any success. We went long into space but Oba and Cullen couldn’t get on the ball, we went long to the front three without any benefit. When patient we created chances. And scored from 2. Their goals came from players switching off and lack of leadership. After taking the lead the captain and central defenders should have been absolutely laying down the law and demanding 100% focus. The problem lies with midfield where we have too many players who are slow of mind and body which piles pressure on the back line. And playing people out of position. While Cabango will jot dance a fandango or out sprint Usain Bolt he adds stability, reliability (n the centre) but more importantly at present he adds authority. The man talk and directs players thought games the others have little communication. That said, some of our play out from the back last night was PL class. Last night, all things considered we were pretty damn decent. Another Downes like player in central / attacking midfield, a tall centre forward to offer some alternative attack options and a left back are needed. I would also look to replace players in January who are unlikely to renew contracts. For what it is worth I,d also send Cullen, Cooper, Obafemi, Walsh, Smith out on loan.

Disagree, don’t have the stats at hand as it doesn’t appear OPTA tracked the cup games from a quick look. But we very much forced the short pass yet again, once we got the ball out of the defence it was slow unimaginative and ponderous. Southampton fans noted it too and said so in their summing up. There was a lot of passing for passing sake, especially in our own half regardless of the press. We were very lucky they went a man down and couldn’t commit to the press any more as it was ugly prior to it.

We were under pressure from three attacker at one stage and persisted in passing 1/2 yards. It is madness Nowt wrong with clearing your lines Its basic football Play football in the opposition box not your own

Agree on your point re Cabango, but Cooper to go on loan? I thought he did well last night and Bennett should have been pulled. We need pace badly, either two wing banks , wingers ( if we are going to switch to that system ) or two pacey full backs.

But why are we seeing "support" for him when he is ruining us. I honestly believe we are hurt a a group and simply dealing with it a best we can. For some posters, this means the obvious, which is obvious. What we post and bitch over has no effect at all as the players do not a monkeys give, coach is looking after coach and the owners are nowhere to be seen. We are rudderless.

Possibly.Possibly not. It is certainly probably we could end up in a relegation scrap. Our demise from grace was possibly more dramatic What is happening to our club is also dramatic.

Sensible possession football is good, like what Rodgers and Martinez did. This is mindless possession football, a Joey Essex version. Feels like someone who doesn't understand what the essence of possession football is. I don't get the impression his level of understanding isn't too deep at all with it. He doesn't appear to look past ''did we have more of the ball? yes''...''did we pass more than them? yes'' - ''we must have played well then, unlucky lads''.
