Martin is showing interest in Ollie Cooper. Did Steve Cooper? 20:58 - Jan 12 with 1382 viewsReslovenSwan1

Russel Martin has spoken in good terms about Ollie Cooper's development. It is clear from his excellent form that he and Brandon Cooper, Whitaker and others should have been on loan much earlier under the Cooper regime.

If there are any improvement, it has to be in the development of these players. Cabango is however a concern. Injury loss of form, Covid concerns have seen a decline. Lets hope he can take over in the centre of the defence soon. He has international experience against some top players at a young age. .

Well 1 manager kept in the squad (not sure if it was though choice) and played him against lower league teams in the cups while the other has left him on loan at a league 2 team and wants to bring in another midfielder who plays in a similar role.

Ollie had three cup games probably as sub before this season. Now 22. Good players come into Swansea and can leave if bid come in quite quickly McBurnie has one good season and was off similarly James and Rodon the same.

Swansea are handing out contracts to young players like Williams, Macfadyan but the pathway seems temporarily blocked. Macfadyan is a left back not a right back. Cabango Whittaker and Benda were earmarked for big things but have stuttered. (hopefully temporarily)

Martin.s young developing players will get a good chance to prove themselves and develop. Cullen, Whittaker, Cooper Ollie, Joseph. Garrick, Webb Brandon Cooper perhaps?

Ollie Cooper had played 3 cup games before this season at the age of 21. Now 22.

You are not sure what the point is.? I asked a question. Did Steve Cooper show much interest in Ollie Coopers development?

Why on earth are you harking back to Cooper, S ?

That ship has sailed and kicked Martinball into touch, unceremoniously.

Some folk need to move on and focus on Martin and how he should turn around this debacle. Give it yer best shot.

Feel free to draw upon Cooperball's superior qualities such as Organisation, Flexibility, Adaptability, Preparedness, Stoic Defensive, Solid Midfield, Innovative Frontline, Hwyl, Pashun, Bouncebackability, Successful Mindset, Sleeves Up Hard Work and Determination, etc......

Cooper Ollie is described as one of the best midfielders in the lower leagues by Martin. He was not treated properly by the previous manager in my opinion who favoured loaned players. Fans are only now finding out about this lad.

.

So, are you suggesting Martin should bring him back and will uniquely transform him into the CM/AM in place of either Pato, Ntcham, Walsh or even Grimes Unleashed ?

I am suggesting that Steve Cooper could have sent him out on loan during his tenure. At 22 and a fit boy he has only played about 20 games.

I am pleased to see Martin getting a good few prospects out of the door and on loan but would like to see the likes of Cabango and Brandon Cooper play regularly and Joseph to get some serious game time. Poor loans like Williams are stunting Swansea player development.

I think Jasper was quite positive on Ollie Cooper if I remember rightly and he tends to be quite accurate in younger players abilities.

So the thrust of the thread is that you would like to see Martin playing Cabango and B Cooper in our defence right now ? And Kyle J as far as poss ?
If Ollie had been sent out on loan last 2 years he would still have no impact on our 1st 11 right now.

Surely all we should be focusing on right now is how we get out of the current mire Martin has led us to, with his immaturity and ego. No ?

In terms of what?

He played for us 5 times under Cooper training with the players every day and learning the ways of the club.

Under Martin he’s not played once.

Wikipedia says he played 3 times for Cooper S in 2 years (mostly as substitute).

He has 20 full senior games in the six month of the Martin regime on loan. I believe he was probably ready last season to play a full season on loan.

Don’t get your information from Wikipedia would be my advice.

He played 5 times under Cooper, zero under Martin.

I highly doubt managers decide who goes on loan and who stays, transfers in and out are at the behest of the hierarchy. The manager tells them who is in his plans and who isn’t.

It’s clear Oli isn’t.

Ollie was probably ready for a loan last season but the interest wasn't there. Nothing outside Welsh Prem.

Called the best midfielder in league 2. I am afraid your post does not stack up. The Irish league would have been useful as with Cameron Evans. This is what agents are for to find action for players.

Dr P appears to suggest Cooper S indeed did not have much interest in the career development of Cooper O.

Where did I suggest that?

I said he played 5 times for Swansea under Cooper and zero times under Martin.

Those that get sent out on loan are usually at the decision of the owning hierarchy after being told such players won’t feature.

Cooper clearly felt Coops could offer something to the side, Martin doesn’t currently.

His choice.

Summer of 2020 both player and club were keen for him go out and get experience, fact is there were no offers of a high enough standard. If he'd gone to Ireland same time as Cam Evans then he might not have ended up at Newport for this season, could have still been there at a lower standard until November.

Rumour is Dan Williams is off to Dundalk, who recently signed his fellow Wales u21s Nathan Shepperd and Joe Adams on permanent deals.

Cooper S wanted to use Cooper O and barely gave him any game time. 5 sub appearances at the age of 21. Did he actually play a full game? Thus preventing a young player getting game time elsewhere which he clearly needed. Some players are good enough but simply do not have enough games under their belt. Swansea's mantra is developing in house players.

Loan players if they play can be a useful asset as they allow developing Swansea players 19-21 age to go away and get games in a less competitive environment. Martin is letting Benda , Cullen, Whittaker, Garrick, Cooper O and Joseph and maybe one or two others like MacFadyan and Dan Williams get game time. Loan players can fill in the gaps if used properly buy time for a number of players Swansea have in the 19-22 age category.

He gave him as much as he felt he could help with. Being able to help the side doesn’t mean you have to start them every game.

Joe Rodon and Ben Davies didn’t have a history of long loan periods because it was felt they were good enough to be called upon to help out the current side. It would be spurious to suggest the club or manager didn’t care about their development.

It all depends on the views of them, Cooper clearly thought he was good enough to potentially be called upon, Martin doesn’t.

You can’t just send players on loan either, a suitable club has to want them - of which apparently that wasn’t the case for Cooper.

That’s the long and the short of it.
