He has just 7 wickets in 4 Ashes Tests at the Gabba, coming at 75.14 per wicket, and every 141 balls.

Supposedly he's got a slight niggle with his calf & they don't want him breaking down early on & being ruled out of the series.
With any luck the iffy weather they've had will mean the pitches aren't as hard & dry as usual so it'll help the English seamers.

The biggest loss is Batsmen with bottle, there's very few in this team, bowlers got not chance of protecting poor batting totals, no matter how good they are and for England having to rely on a 39yr old bowler is ridiculous no matter how good he's been. |  |

Burns has never looked good enough & only retained his place because Sibley was worse!
Hameed is a battler to be fair & is probably worth persevering with but isn't best suited to Aussie pitches.

Report Day two.
England's dismal start to the Ashes series was compounded by Travis Head's blistering century on day two of the first Test at the Gabba.
Left-hander Head tucked into a weary attack to reach three figures from only 85 balls, the third-fastest in Ashes history.
David Warner, bowled off a Ben Stokes no-ball and dropped by Rory Burns, earlier made 94 and Marnus Labuschagne 74, yet when Ollie Robinson took two wickets in two balls Australia were five wickets down and just 48 ahead.
Head, though, crashed 12 fours and two sixes in his 112 not out to take Australia to 343-7, 196 ahead after England were dismissed for 147 on day one.
England's three frontline seamers carried a threat for most of the day, but left-arm spinner Jack Leach was targeted for some brutal treatment, conceding 95 runs from 11 overs, including five sixes.
Stokes looked to injure his knee chasing the ball in the field and barely bowled after lunch, while Robinson struggled with a left leg injury late on.
There was also a worrying moment when Head was struck by a rapid accidental beamer from Mark Wood. The batter recovered and the bowler was swift to apologise.
After only two days, England are facing the prospect of going 1-0 down, and know they will have to better their first-innings effort just to make Australia bat again.
Missed chances and the ineffectiveness of Leach aside, England could do little more on a second day that exposed the inadequacy of their performance and decisions on day one.
Whereas England opted to bat in ideal conditions for bowling, Australia's batters enjoyed clear skies on a scorching hot day.
When a team is bowled out for 147, it seems churlish to rake over bowling selections, but the way Leach was singled out raises further questions over the exclusion of Stuart Broad and James Anderson, and leaves doubts over the part he could play in the remainder of the series.
Robinson was superb, Wood bowled with extreme pace and Chris Woakes often beat the bat. However, the sight of Stokes limping is a huge concern and his nine overs cost 50 runs.
When Robinson had David Warner caught at mid-off and followed by bowling Cameron Green, who offered no shot, the game was in the balance.
Then came Head's stunning assault, which will surely extend England's 35-year winless run at the Gabba.

Head proves his worth
Head was vying with Usman Khawaja for the final spot in the Australian batting line-up and justified his selection with a memorable century.
He was at the other end for Robinson's double strike and was fortunate to survive an edge off the same bowler that flew wide of the slip cordon when he had only one.
From there, he flayed the England bowlers, cutting the pacemen and taking a six apiece from Leach and Joe Root's off-spin.
Head reached 50 from 51 balls and needed just 34 more to reach his third Test century - only Australia's Adam Gilchrist and England's Gilbert Jessop have made faster Ashes hundreds.
As the light faded he was felled by Wood, the ball thudding into Head's glove, then chin. The fast bowler showed his concern and seemed shaken afterwards.
Head, though, remains, and his presence could see Australia make rapid progress on the third morning before looking to skittle England once more.
Warner managed only 95 runs in the entire 2019 series, when he was dismissed seven times by Broad.
But with Broad bowling in the nets rather than the middle, Warner rode his luck to get within one run of matching his tally from two years ago.
He was discomforted by the pace of Wood, bowled by the Stokes no-ball on 17, and reprieved on 48 when Burns put down a simple chance at second slip off Robinson's bowling. Warner also survived a bizarre run-out chance on 60, scrambling on all fours to make his ground as Haseeb Hameed missed with a shy from short leg.
In between he punched through the covers, launched Leach for two straight sixes and hurried between the wickets.
Warner added 156 with Labuschagne, who came through a verbal joust with Robinson to also score through the cover region and take Leach for two maximums of his own.
It was Labuschagne's eagerness to get after Leach that caused his downfall, with a miscue to point sparking England's mini-revival before Head took charge. |  |

That would mean they'd have to make 500+ still need 58 to equal the Aussie 1st innings score, they'll need a minimum of a 250 lead to give the bowlers half a chance, not gonna happen. | |

England's hope evaporated into a crushing nine-wicket defeat by Australia on the fourth day of the first Ashes Test at the Gabba.
After the optimism of their third-day fightback, England meekly lost their last eight wickets for 77 runs in the morning session, including the crucial departures of Joe Root for 89 and Dawid Malan on 82.
Malan was Nathan Lyon's 400th Test wicket, the off-spinner going on to claim 4-91 as England were bowled out for 297.
Australia were left with only 20 to chase, which they completed soon after lunch in the Brisbane sun to give Pat Cummins victory in his first Test as captain.
The home side go 1-0 up in the five-match series and continue their 35-year unbeaten run against England in Brisbane.
England have now lost 10 of their past 11 Tests in Australia and won only one of 10 matches since they beat India in the first Test in February.
With England needing to win the series in order to regain the Ashes, Root's side have almost no margin for error in the remaining four Tests.
The second Test in Adelaide, a day-night match played with a pink ball, begins on Thursday.
Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that the fifth Test, originally scheduled for Perth, will instead be held in Hobart, also as a day-nighter.
England engineer their downfall
Given their wretched record at the Gabba and disrupted preparation, England needed everything to go right for them if they were to leave Brisbane with a result.
Instead, they were as good as beaten when they were bowled out for 147 by tea on day one. On top of that, David Warner was dropped, and bowled off a no-ball as he made a crucial 94 in Australia's first innings.
The only time England had the better of Australia was when Root and Malan were compiling their 162-run partnership on the third evening.
Questions will be asked of the decisions England made. They chose to bat in ideal conditions for bowling and left out pace bowler Stuart Broad in favour of spinner Jack Leach, who was crashed for 102 runs in 13 overs.
In fairness, the way the pitch behaved suggests Australia would have faced some uneven bounce and turn from Leach if England had been able to post a challenging target in the fourth innings.
Ultimately, toss and selection decisions count for little when the batting collapses in both innings and chances are not taken in the field.
Now there is huge pressure on England in Adelaide, when Broad and James Anderson will surely return in a bid to exploit the pink ball. Lose there and the Ashes will almost certainly be gone.
Hope extinguished
The optimism Root and Malan created on Friday lasted less than four overs into Saturday, when the advancing Malan turned the ball into his pad to be caught at silly point as Lyon became the 17th man in Test history to reach 400 wickets.
The hammer blow for England was the loss of prolific captain Root, who was drawn into edging a delicious outswinger from Cameron Green, ensuring his wait for a Test hundred in Australia continues.
From there, England subsided to a ruthless Australia in a collection of loose strokes, poor technique and timid prods.
When Ollie Pope inexplicably tried to cut his first ball from Lyon and was caught at slip, England had lost 3-11, after which came a bizarre period of about 30 minutes when global TV pictures from the Gabba were lost.
England did not lose a wicket in that time but, when they returned, Ben Stokes was squared up for the second time in the match to be caught off a leading edge from Cummins' bowling.
Jos Buttler nicked Josh Hazlewood, both Ollie Robinson and Mark Wood fell trying to attack Lyon and Chris Woakes gave an edge off Green.
All alright for Australia
Three weeks ago Australia's joy at winning the T20 World Cup was shattered by the resignation of captain Tim Paine in a texting scandal, with the former captain going on to pull out of the series altogether.
Now they are 1-0 up and surely contemplating repeating the hammerings dished out on three of England's last four tours down under.
Cummins marked his captaincy bow with seven wickets, Travis Head repaid his selection with 152 and Paine's replacement Alex Carey took eight catches behind the stumps, a record for a Test debutant.
One concern for Australia will be the fitness of Warner, who was struck in the ribs while batting in the first innings and subsequently did not field or bat in the second.
Carey took his place as opener but edged Robinson behind just before Marcus Harris hit the winning runs.
England fined 100% of match fee & docked WTC points
England have also been docked five World Test Championship points and fined 100% of their match fee for a slow over rate.
The tourists were deemed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to be five overs short of their target rate.
Root's side were also penalised two World Test Championship points for a slow over rate against India at Trent Bridge in the summer.
Meanwhile, the ICC has fined Australia batter Head 15% of his match fee for "use of an audible obscenity".
The player of the match made the remark - which was picked up by the stump mic - after being beaten by a delivery from Stokes in Australia's first innings, in which he made a century.
'We know where we need to improve'
England captain Joe Root: "It's frustration. We worked hard to get back in the game. We hoped to post some sort of total today. The pitch was a little uneven and cracks were appearing. but we couldn't get through that initial phase.
"Our selection? It's easy to say with hindsight. We wanted variation in our attack, move through different gears. Our bowlers were excellent, but we have to be better in the field. Likewise with the bat.
"We showed fight and character for some of the second innings and know where we have to improve."
Australia captain Pat Cummins: "I am really proud of everyone. It was a complete performance. The bowlers did their thing on day one, Marnus and Davey with their big partnership, and the way Trav played is the sign of a positive, brave side.
"I was really happy with how everyone stuck to it (on day three). We turned up today knowing we were ahead of the game.
"Trav can take the game away within a couple of hours. Everything we say to Trav is go out and play your own way. He has a bright future ahead." | |
