Newport seem to have imploded a little, the beautifully coiffured Rodney Parade pitch certainly did them no favours against a rampant hard running Southampton side. It could be make or break for young Cooper. If he is good enough for Swansea he has to beak into the first team at Newport.

Brandon Cooper made the grade Tyler Reid did not.

He's been released, he's at Penybont in Welsh Prem now.

Really is a shame.

Ollie Cooper is 21 years old and no longer eligible for the Wales u21 even.

I do not think he has been treated properly by Steve Cooper. He has played only 3 senior games. He should have been alongside Cameron Evens in Ireland at the very least.

He needs to crack on now and get 40 games plus.

The Jan 1st international cutoff date is harder on some players than others. Brandon Cooper is only a month younger than Ollie, but is still eligible for another u21s campaign. As each campaign runs a couple of years, Brandon will be 23 by the time the latter stages of this tournament are played.

In Ollie's last u21s appearance he came on as a very late sub for Nathan Broadhead, who is 20 months older. Both became ineligible at the same time.

First major covid outbreak at Newport. Near spotless record last season. 7 out for the weekend.

"Flynn revealed that some of the individuals are missing because they have to isolate after turning down coronavirus vaccinations. Had they been double-jabbed then they would have been free to play after testing negative.

“That's a decision that they have got to live with, they have decided not to have the jab and every time they come into close contact [with a positive case] they will miss 10 days of football, or 12 because they have to return to play,” said the manager.

“If they are happy doing that then it's not going to help them going forward. I am not happy with that but that's my opinion and I've got to let players make their own decisions.”

...

"Lewis Collins has had two jabs and was going to go away with Wales Under-21s but he only had his second jab 10 days before he was in close contact with one of the other players.

"In the rules you have to be two weeks post-second jab. He has been so unfortunate."

Double ab doesn't mean they would have tested negative though, does it?

No but it does mean they had done everything they could have to avoid a positive test result.

Still, I don't think managers should speak like that, but I don't want to get into a long debate about covid jabs again, so I'll leave it there I think ha

Flynn likes to find his 11 and stick with it, so needless disruptions and absences on top of the normal football stuff will have him tearing his hair out. Speaks his mind. Only just recovered from covid himself, of course.

Maybe the players like the idea of putting their feet up for two weeks whenever they're a close contact? You can't force them to take it, but there's no obligation to like the decision or coddle them about it either. 65.9% of 18-29 year olds in Wales have had both jabs now. With footballers you get the impression that figure is far less, even though they have an extra professional incentive based on the EFL's very clear (for a change) rules for clubs.

Top comment JT. Swansea have one or two 'refusniks' as well. Mike Flynn has already seen the his and the clubs reputation suffer badly with an 0-8 drubbing.

If my 87 year old dad can have one why not Swansea 20 year old tough centre back, who is watching telly while his mates battle for points and his nation battles to get him to Qatar if far flung Russia.

Because an 87 year old needs them and a 20 year old simply doesn't

So to clarify, one player in the first team bubble tests positive. All those double jabbed can carry on and any player not must isolate?

The 87 year old needs to avoid the 20 year old in Rossi's as the 20 year old with no mask can theoretically cause his early death. The double jab is not 100% effective.

Could we have key players on big contracts repeatedly being out for 10 days isolating?. There is also the issue of fitness and Russell martins need to get the players to fit into his pattern of play. The club should take a very dim view of the 'refusniks'.

Double jabbed players get tested once and if it's negative they can go straight back in with no isolation period.

This is for close contacts, like players who live with each other etc.

even if a non vaccinated player tests negative, they still need to isolate?

If that is the case, that is a terrible rule. Negative should mean negative.

It is merely an act of coercion. Players who have the right to decide for themselves and actually not positive, will be vilified and treated differently in the workplace. Totally wrong.

Negative can also mean "not positive yet". For close contacts the symptoms might not show for a few days, by which time there are more close contacts. Double-jabbed players are given the benefit of the doubt because everyone has done all they can, well done.

If it's an act of coercion, fantastic. These idiots need coercing. Players are free to choose to do a lot of things - they can stay out all night, smoke and drink etc. but no manager has to like it (any more).

Thanks.

I just wonder if the question is asked when you enquire about taking a player on loan.
