What’s the betting we go right up to the 11th hour before we get all our players in.

Then cue the excuses that we’ve not had enough time together.

Yes, let's start whining about things that haven't happened yet.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Not meant to sound like whining.

Just starting a discussion on whether we will get our business done early or later. My view is that we’ll do it late as ever.

Feel free to discuss.

Or not.

We will always do our business late with the yanks in charge, they will want top dollar for our players who are wanted and will pay low dollar for players we want.

In fairness to cooper it was the same with him and this process will never change whilst we have these owners.

Always something to moan about. If we have a quiet deadline day there'll be tears about how the owners aren't showing enough ambition and backing the manager with what he needs, even if (as last summer) we signed a good handful in the months prior.

If we sell early then the owners didn't hold out for enough money, if we sell late then the owners didn't give anyone time to buy replacements. Can't win.

Quite true of course.

I hope they have targets lined up e.g. the likes of Darling and ready to come.

I believe there’s a shorter close season this year because of the WC?

Just normal business these days why sign players in June and have to pay them £10,000 per week for June and July.

Winter is in charge and he is "a Sass" not a "Yank". Allen was in charge of football "a Taff" but made some pretty useless signings and has been sacked by the "Sass".

Christie and Wolf are wanted again perhaps Christie will be straight forward. The club should not mess about make one offer and move on. The Germans (not going there) control the Wolf and will move at their own pace.

Chelsea, Man city and Liverpool with their loan player move at the own pace and do not dance to the tune of Championship clubs. In January Cardiff got Doyle from Man city who has been good and Swansea were left playing musical chairs and got 18 year old Burns as a consolation prize.

And from yesterday’s post match interview, Martin has said exactly what he needs i.e. size and pace at the back. Let’s hope eh?

Good point but its the same with players who will undoubtedly be sold, double edged sword.

MK Dons players won't know whether they want to jump ship until after the playoffs. Even if they do want to work for the manager who got them to 13th in League One rather than the manager who got them to 3rd, it will have a massive effect on asking price.

It's difficult to do your work early and well. We've had plenty of mishaps in the last few seasons where we've signed players and then the landscape has changed. Asoro and McKay came in for Potter, but then Dyer and Routledge wouldn't go out on loan to save wages and some little lad in the u23s was better than all of them. Liam Walsh came in early last summer, but Grimes didn't end up going and Martin wanted Flynn Downes.

It is never as simple or straightforward to bring players in/move players out as most people seem to believe. Perhaps they're conditioned by managerial computer games to think that it is. One or two clicks and unwanted players are moved out to be replaced by others. Easy peasy.
In the real world there are hundreds of other clubs also wanting to do the best bit of business for them.

No doubt shifting Ryan Bennett's wage off the books is a key factor in our own business. No doubt the likely sale of Piroe will be key to how much of a budget RM has to work with. If neither of those things happen early in the window then we're going to have to wait it out.

Yes agree 4 million loss last accounts.

We need to be sustainable if Piroe and Downes go be interesting to see how much we have to spend.

Surely them 2 are worth 25 million combined.

It would be nice to get new signings in the door by the end of June. Hopefully a few will come in by then. Yanks know they will sell our best players by the end of the summer so they need to gamble a bit and get the best players available early before they are signed up by other championship clubs.

I doubt anyone on here can answer that question.
I’m sure RM and the club would like everything sorted sooner rather than later, but transfers coming and going are business deals, so could get drawn out. Who knows

It’s not really a question as such but more a basis for discussion.

I agree no one can really answer it accurately as there are too many ponderables but something to talk about I think.

In an ideal world, get all the business ( players and staff ) done asap so we can hit the ground running.
Reality is if and until we sell the players the club wants to sell ( and when their price is met ), it may be difficult to give Martin and whoever else is involved in recruitment a transfer chest to work with.
For me, any players not required, get moved out ASAP ( sold or otherwise ).
If we are to sell Piroe etc, get it done ASAP for a reasonable offer, rather than waiting until the end of August for the last minute sale and inevitable panic buy.

I'm sure you mean "Saes" but why reduce it to an insulting term when "English" would have done, it puzzles me? By using Taff were you merely giving yourself an excuse to be mildly insulting? You are another who seems to have issues with our English cousins.

Whenever we get our business done I expect it to go the same way as previous years. We will sell 2-4 players for over 20 million combined, we will then bring in replacements for about 30% of that. We will continue to tread water, unless we manage to unearth several gems. We will have a financially viable club, which is enough for a lot of us.

I've done my complaining for the time being. Now it's another wait and see period. Martin can have until Christmas, as others have said they will give him. The big difference is he isn't starting with a clean sheet now, he has made assertions that he has to live up to. Another window, a full pre season, the chance to bring in the players he wants and be rid of those he doesn't...and a couple who will be sold no matter how much we need them...so we will all have to wait and see.
