| Wayne Hennessey.Surely... 19:52 - Jun 5 with 1570 views | onehunglow | A real goalkeeper.Controls his area, comes for crosses and puts his body on the line. We can nly dream our crap for brains owners make a move for him, currently second choice at Burnley. Just the player we should be looking at instead of kids barely out of nappies or Russy boys | |

So why are we not clammering for him for our owners to go and get home and resurrect his club career.

He is number 2 at Burnley who have been relegated. Pope will be sold, Hennessey joined Burnley last year on a 2 year deal with a 1 year option. Wonderful idea but I don't think he is anywhere within our budget.

Yeah, they have parachute payments, they'll maybe sell their highest earners/most valuable assets but they'll want to hold onto the main core as much as possible and look to go straight back up. I guess how many they sell will depend on the true state of their debts and how much they can pay off over the next 3 years. I expect their crowds will be pretty similar to ours, 15-17k. Question is, how much are their best players worth? Pope, Tarkowski, Weghorst, Brownhill, McNeil and Cornet are (according to transfermarket.co.uk) valued at a combined 80 million but we know the state of the market and the relegation means they'd be lucky to get anywhere near that. They might only get 30-40 million or even less. Their debt is stated at 65 million. Even so, if they sell Pope or not, we won't be in for Hennessy because he is an old school keeper and Burnley are a lot more direct than us.

He sone who controls his area and puts his body on the line It’s what wins matches . It’s why Wales are through. It’s why we lose not having the likes of him.

Hockey was highlighted on here somewhere. The last great bald footballer for Wales. Have Wales ever been in a penalty shootout?. I cannot recall one. Never really gone far enough. I was confident the Ukraine game would go to pens. Thankfully it did not happen.

A lot will depend what the terms of the leveraged buy out are and how much and how soon they have to pay out as a consequence of relegation. Hennessy fits Burnley's current playing style but not ours. Keepers in a possession based side need additional ball skills and have to play like sweepers. I can see what Martin wants, the issue as some have pointed out is can he do it on our budget. As an example De Gea is believed to have had a good season as a shot stopper and be one of Man Utd's best players, but is he part of their problem as well? His distribution is Poor and he is no sweeper behind a slow defence who additionally can't play a high line because of his lack of ball ability. Gaps open between defence and midfield and good teams can play through them.

Yes but what would Henessy do when he gets a back pass and he's under pressure....he'd hoof it wouldn't he? Thing is many of us would be grateful the ball was gone and the threat with it but Martin would probably drop him for not following instructions. He won't come here whatever happens, even if we can afford him because Martin wouldn't use him.

He would Cat and he 'd probably kick it to one of our own players. Imagine attackers closing down on him;he d probably come of his line. Imagine our keeper doing that. We can only dream

Oh that's it then..let's keep a keeper who's ok with his feet but can't come for crosses useless commanding his area his positioning his abysmal gets done at near post..but keep him because he can pass ball 5 yards..its unbelievable yhr mindset he's a keeper not a centre half and the basic keeper things should come first, not whether he can pass it Which most keepers can do these days anyway..
