| Is It The End Of The Road For Martin At Swansea City 08:09 - Feb 12 with 4666 views | STID2017 | As one of his most fervent supporters, I am of the opinion that he can do no more with our players. I firmly believe had he been supported by the owners in January, we would not be at this point now. That is now a moot* point and we are at a point where he either needs to leave or be replaced for his own wellbeing and that of the team. Long term, this will not cure the rot that has set in the club. That will only happen when the owners are replaced. Whether he goes before Wednesday's game against bottom placed Blackpool or not, I fear the atmosphere will be toxic, with most fans anger vented towards the ever-absent non caring owners Not an evening to look forward to if I am honest. Thanks to Plankton for your incisive** posts highlighting he had spotted my typos. [Post edited 13 Feb 2023 8:12]

Aye I’m sure there is no way we would be in this position now if we got in Karlan Grant But being one of his “most fervent supporters” you must praise the owners for appointing such a man then… right? Even more so considering all the time and money they have spent on him.

There was an recent editorial that discussed Martin's demeanour in his presser, which suggested that he seemed at a low ebb and that for his own well-being and that of his family he ought to consider his position? I am just echoing that that here and think it is probably more relevant after the two recent losses ?

My concern is that they by not backing him in January, they are just forcing him into a corner where he may feel he has no other option. This cannot be good for his physical or mental health or the well-being of his family in the long run. No job is worth putting up with the lack of support he gets from the owners. Were he in mainstream employment he would have a good case for constructive dismissal following the promises made to back him in Jsnuary which were then reneged on. They should have backed him in January or sacked him, but the charlatans did neither

We now have the second worst defence in the league only Wigan have let in more. Any half competent manager should be able to sort out a defence after nearly two seasons in charge.

They won't do either because they don't care about the club or the manager. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Agreed, although sacking him now may not be the best idea. It depends who is available and how much it would cost. We will have far more options come end of season. As much as I don’t rate Martin, I’d be surprised if he actually took a side as talented as this down to league 1. He should have enough about him to do his usual bottom half but safe finish. If it comes to a point where we are really knocking on the trap door then we could always rely on Joe Allen who is incredibly respected and knows how to play a proper passing and possession game. So I’d hold fire for now.

But he has to go at the end of the season now. And I don't buy into this he hasn't been backed, let's be honest all his signings permanent or loan have been poor. A few players in January didn't want to come here, but the near signing of Grant show he did have a budget. They are not the best owners, but far from the worst

I am of the opinion that his departure would be a relief for the players. They can’t be enjoying this . I’m amazed people are actually bothered about HIM He s an employee of the club . No more no less

Joe Allen was a brilliant player in his time, and providing he stays fit can still be a brilliant player for us. However to make him interim or permanent manager at this stage in his career would be a mistake. He is well respected, but that does not mean he has the capabilities ( and certainly not the experience ) to be the mansger

I know he was brought back with leadership in mind. He is regarded similar to how Monk was within the club. Joe Allen was doing his coaching badges in 2021.

True but I feel he is so passed his best it is a distant memory. A sentimental acquisition sadly.

Downes was good. I liked both Wolf and Christie too. After that I'm struggling, although I do believe that Darling has the makings of an excellent player given a coach who knows what he's doing. Hopefully there's time to get one in before the damage to his game becomes terminal.

You've been saying that since day one. It was nonsense then, and is still nonsense now.

Would you say he has been of much use to us thus far ? Has he given us a boost in some way ? Have a lovely day [Post edited 12 Feb 2023 10:01]

I would love to see him as manager one day. However I would prefer to see him as an assistant first with us. Then maybe in two of three years time take over. I would hate to see him ruined by being called upon too soon. Monk, although he got us to eighth place, was nowhere near as highly regarded as Joe Allen is. He has achieved far more and was and is a better player than Monk. Monk was an average player who did a brilliant job for us, like many of the team during the rise and Premier Lesgue days.

Great players don’t always make great managers though. That said, him as a player manager right now would give us a lift .

That is also my fear. At least if he gains some experience as an assistant then IMHO he will be more ready for the challenges as a manager. As the owners won't sack Martin ( and he won't leave - financially why would he ? ) then it probably a mute point anyway.

Yes amazingly isn’t it what a competent manager with a good system can achieve with average players like Monk and Gower etc like getting us promoted to the PL and becoming the darlings of the division with our football funny how the likes of Martinez and Rodger’s got us playing nice winning football with average players yet it seems Russ need a different class of player

Joe could well go into management. He certainly has huge respect in south Wales especially. As for Martin,he could surely talk his way into a bigger clubs manager position by citing our putrid owners . He s smart ,presentable and talks a good game . He cannot be happy right now
