Went to see them tonight. Excellent game in fairness Swans deservedly led 1 -0 for a long period following a first half goal from Liam Walsh. They dominated the half and could have had three or four more. Halftime saw Swansea withdraw Walsh, replaced by Leverett. Cardiff also made two changes, both of whom had a positive effect on the Cardiff side later on in the second half. However for the first 25 minutes, Swansea continued to largely dominate. However, largely against the run of play, Cardiff scored an equaliser. Then shortly after they took the lead from a 25 yard free kick. Swansea continued to press and got a deserved equaliser through Josh Thomas. Both sides had chances to win it, but it finished 2-2. For Cardiff, the man of the match was their goalkeeper who made several excellent saves to keep Cardiff in the game. For Swansea, McFayden, as well as sustitutes Leverett, Lloyd and Josh Thomas were excellent. The most striking thing for me was how much Swansea pushed down both flanks with darting runs and good crosses and driving balls to create chances

Josh Thomas netted a late equaliser as Swansea City Under-21s secured a point in their south Wales derby against Cardiff City at Landore on Monday evening.
The Swans had led the Professional Development League fixture thanks to Liam Walsh’s header, but second-half goals from Morgan Wigley and Gavin Whyte gave the visitors the lead.
But Thomas made no mistake when handed the chance to level 10 minutes from time as the spoils were shared.
The Swans had given Walsh more minutes in his return from an Achilles injury, while new signing Liam Smith was handed a debut following his arrival from Manchester City.
Meanwhile, the trio of Ben Lloyd, Thomas and Ruben Davies returned to the matchday squad after being sidelined with injury.
There were some encouraging signs from the Swans early on, Lincoln Mcfayden having some joy down the left as he picked out Cameron Congreve in the middle, but the midfielder sent his strike wide of the target.
Joe Thomas — fresh from having his contract extended until the summer of 2024 — then got away down the centre from a Kai Ludvigsen pass, before finding Smith in support. However, his delivery just evaded the Swans’ attackers in the area.
But Swansea were soon rewarded for a bright start as Congreve started a move that ended with Walsh nodding home an excellent cross from Smith.
The visitors had barely threatened but they forced defender Ludvigsen into an important intervention just moments later as he cleared Whyte’s attempt on goal.
But the chances were all going Swansea’s way. Davies and McFayden linked well but the former was denied by the Cardiff keeper, while the latter saw another effort blocked by Cardiff defender Xavier Benjamin.
Swansea pressed again, Jake Dennis in the Cardiff goal denying McFayden twice in quick succession, with the first a top-quality fingertip stop to keep out a strike from distance.
The Swans were then forced into a substitution just before the break, as Ludvigsen was replaced by Ben Blythe after taking a knock, but the home side retained the lead at the interval.
The Swans started on the front foot following the restart, barely letting the Bluebirds enter their half. Meanwhile, McFayden and Kian Jenkins continued to threaten the Cardiff defence.
Fresh legs were introduced through Lloyd and Josh Thomas, and they made an immediate impact as Lloyd sent Thomas through on goal after advancing down the left, but the striker couldn't quite finish the move.
Cardiff began to press men forward heading into the final 20 minutes and Wigley sent a drive just wide of the post after a purposeful run.
And the forward would make no mistake moments later when a Swans attack broke down and the visitors broke for Wigley to fire a low shot beyond Ben Hughes.
The equaliser had sparked renewed energy in the visitors and they capitalised by taking the lead when Whyte sent a low free-kick through the wall and into the bottom corner to give Cardiff the lead.
But the Swans fought back and secured a draw when Thomas flicked the ball home from close range.
Swansea City Under-21s: Ben Hughes, Joe Thomas, Kian Jenkins, Liam Walsh (Sam Leverett 46'), Azeem Abdulai, Kai Ludvigsen (Ben Blythe 43’), Liam Smith, Cameron Congreve, Ruben Davies (Josh Thomas 61'), Joel Cotterill (captain), Lincoln McFayden.
Unused subs: Remy Mitchell.
Cardiff City Under-21s: Jake Dennis, Vontae Campbell, Joel Bagan, Aidan Macnamara (Isaac Jefferies 46'), Xavier Benjamin, Cameron Antwi, Will Spiers (Jai Semenyo 49'), Owen Pritchard (Lewys Ware 46'), Chanka Zimba, Gavin Whyte, Rubin Colwill (Morgan Wigley 57').

Thanks I ask because he joined the Academy the same time as one of my grandsons and it's good to see him still making progress there
I was very impressed with the team overall. Many exciting prospects there. As well as the ones I mentioned Cotterill was also excellent. The Cardiff keeper was outstanding in fairness. One thing that struck me though that a few times we started the same nonsense out from the keeper inviting the high press. Not as much as the senior team does mind. Guess it is part of the modern game

He's had some bad injuries that ate up most of his scholarship so it's nice to see the club giving him a bit more time to have a go. Not everyone's been so lucky but as an u16 Kian was a pretty impressive prospect from what I'd seen. Technically very good, maybe lacking in size and athleticism moving forward (Aaron Lewis was maybe a similar type of player, now at Newport).
It's a shame the club doesn't bother streaming these games any more. I used to enjoy being at home on a Monday evening watching people freeze at Landore. The team is almost as good now as what we had at the tail end of the PL years, just naive/self-defeating tactically in trying to imitate the first team.

Incredible that a player who was taken to the World Cup and meant to be the next big thing (Colwill) is still struggling with his career. He kept an in form player player out of the Wales squad.

He also kept an in form 18 year old ( Lewys Ware ) on the bench for the first half. It was he who set up Cardiff's first goal and generally helped improve them in the second half

Did you enjoy the style of play more than the senior team plays?
It was a much more attack minded game than we generally see at senior level If this attacking flair and style was replicated at senior level, think we would all be a lot happier. Apart from a bit of playing out from the back which was reminiscent of the senior team, definitely better, yes.

I would expect all levels to play in this way, regardless of the manager. But it’s clearly something that works. The same results though, that game should have been 8-0. Lack of finishing and an inspired keeper prevented that.
For me this looks a highly competent football side with exciting players for the future.
Here it is.

Jeez if those highlights were a true reflection of how the game went the Swans really should have been out of sight by half time.

Yes I was aware of his injuries , kept him out for quite a while, during my time watching his age group he always had pace but little end product but obviously he and Congreave ( same group) had something about themselves so good on them , they had the desire and will to suceed and hopefully it'll provide them both a living out of the game at what ever level that maybe.

In work at the moment so had to watch the video with the sound off. Who's the no.8? He looked excellent in centre mid. No.7 was Congreve I guess? Some good runs from him.
Looked a dominant performance, shame we couldn't put them away

I thought Congreve was no.8 certainly looked stocky enough to be him.

He’s had complications from a growth spurt or something along those lines. Very strange. He was excellent for Wales in the first half against the Czech Republic last year, best player on the pitch but noticeably fatigued in the second half.

Should have been a team sheet with numbers on, but "someone" forgot to post it. Eh Keith ?
