it's hard to disagree. This is a country that has stopped abortion because of a right to lfe yet they also demand the right to carry guns which are the cause of thousands of illegal deaths every year.

Posters seem to have missed the point that the US is vast, so big that you could fit ten European countries inside Texas at once, with room to spare or the UK 2.5 times, that's just one state . Each state with its own legislation etc so no wonder there's such a mish mash of intelligence, standards of education and financial security. I’d say that example is pretty different.
I was on safeguarding training when this case was used as an example. It wasn’t a knee jerk ‘let’s use daft pronouns for everyone’ case.
It was a child with proper gender dismorphia. The school and the parents worked really hard and really sensitively on the transition. Other parents in the class were all on board and there was a two year lead up to the change.
The teacher wouldn’t use the boys name because of their religion which I don’t think is ok.
I’ve worked in education for over 20 years and I’ve only ever come across one case of what I’d call proper gender dismorphia. This child is this story is a direct match to the one example I know of and it was totally correct to use a boys name for him.

As a rule of thumb I’d say that religion should stay out of schools. We’ve got separation of church and state but politicians hide from this when it comes to church schools.

Again, I’m with you Cat but keeping it out of schools is nearly impossible.
Most church schools are built on church owned land and the terms of the lease tie them in to all kinds of archaic things that’s makes the church inescapable.
