Feedback from the trial areas was almost uniformly negative from normal people yet they pushed ahead with it anyway. They might pay lip service to a petition but I'd be very surprised if it actually changed anything. Only booting the likes of Waters out of office will achieve that.

| 20 MPH rollout on 17:45 - Jun 5 with 2924 views | majorraglan | I totally get the need to have a 20mph speed limit in certain places, but a blanket roll out is madness. It’s not just in Wales either, it’s being rolled in in parts of England and Scotland. We need to drop our politicans over this and they need to be told to sort it out or they’ll be booted out at the next election. | | | |
| 20 MPH rollout on 17:46 - Jun 5 with 2924 views | SullutaCreturned | There's a few obvious problems, I'll start with evrybody having to tootle about in second gear churning out all that pollution that low gears give. Then, when they introduce the charges on the M4 there'll be more congestion but everybody doing 20...towns will be rammed so even more pollution. Of course business will go berserk and start moving it's factory's/premises away from the clogged up areas so the economy will suffer. But honestly does anybody expect the Senedd to do anything besides have a pointless debate where the outcome is...full steam ahead because they dont listen to the people, what do we think this is, a democracy! | | | |
| 20 MPH rollout on 19:24 - Jun 5 with 2880 views | blackswan | Will the cyclists have to give us 1.5 meter room whe they overtake us. This is total insanity will cause carnage and hurt businesses. Who in their right mind would come to Wales one motorway with huge swathes 50mph except of course around Cardiff. Vote them out next election even if it means doi g the unthinkable and vote tory | | | |

These certain plkaces already have the 20mph limit in place so why has the rest of the county have to has thse draconian mesures imposed on its residents. we already have speed humps and cameras fitted where aciidents have occurred or may occur .All this at a cost to an already stretched, so we're told, public purse.

It’s only unenforceable when the council haven’t introduced a traffic order, around these parts the Council Highways Dept usually do that.

"Schemes to reduce road traffic speed in CERTAIN areas have become increasingly popular in the UK and parts of Europe in an attempt to improve safety." thats not what Drakeford wants though now is it , he wants a blanket limit regardless

20 out of 317, not even 10% Most of Europe, well lets go bigger and look at the world, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_limits_by_country# Europe has it in certain places but it's not a blanket limit and we are talking about many places here that largely have better roads than Wales, because they have upgraded their infrastructure.
| 20 MPH rollout on 08:42 - Jun 7 with 2499 views | Boundy | This from Swansea Council's web page Who is paying for the changes? Is it coming from my council tax? "In Swansea, as elsewhere, the work needed to implement the changes is being done by local authorities. Councils in Wales are expecting the Welsh Government to pay for the work through grants to local authorities. In Swansea the cost of implementing the change is expected to be in the region of £3m". Who'd have guessed Who will be responsible for enforcement of the new 20mph rules? As with all speed enforcement issues, Go Safe Wales will be responsible for enforcing the rules. Who'd have guesssed "As always, any money generated from the proceeds of fines or prosecutions goes to the Welsh Government. None of the proceeds of speeding fines goes to Swansea Council or any other local authority." https://www.swansea.gov.uk/article/20765/Introduction-of-20mph-speed-limit#:~:te | |

I think Swansea City Council have got the last bit about fines wrong. Any money generated from fixed penalty fines goes to the Treasury in London not the WG.

No, Gosafe is funded by the WG and grants from the Police and Crime Commissioners, the grants come from income generated from speed awareness courses etc. Fines - like those applied in Criminal Courts go to the treasury.

So the Senedd is spending millions on this but any revenue raised because people get caught in 20 zones goes to Westminster. That's just wrong.

Yup. Income from courses goes to the PCC’s, income from fines to the Treasury. Criminal Justice isn’t devolved. I don’t agree with the 20mph and would bin it apart from places like outside schools. [Post edited 7 Jun 2023 15:27]

Is it the Senedd funding the changes or the local councils. It is supposed to be optional and any council can opt out anyway. How many will opt out because it is a waste of funds.

Parking on the kerb as a fineable offence, was supposed be brought in at the same time, but has been delayed because administration can't handle all the paperwork. In how many areas is there no choice but to park partly on the kerb as the alternative is to block the road.
