"The Super League and its backers, A22 Sports, argued that UEFA's prohibition of the would-be competition -- first launched in April 2021 -- and its threatened punishments for participating clubs were incompatible with Europe's laws on freedom of competition." https://www.espn.co.uk/footbal

This was unfair competition as other competitors could not possible compete with the funding provided by a sovereign Governmental body. The US Government is looking into this. The EU is supposed to promote competition not massive buying up of Western sport by highly oppressive Muslim Governments who do not even defend basic human rights . A way forward is fr EUFA to control the sport and tender out competitions within their framework. FIFA is notionally "not for profit". Swansea regularly went to Newcastle and won. Now it is practically impossible. [Post edited 21 Dec 2023 15:52]

Yes they are not in the EU so are not bound by any rulings from EU courts. They are a World governing body and countries join them of there own free will and agree to abide be FIFA rules which are agree by countries who are members of FIFA. The same goes for UEFA based in Switzerland made up of 55 countries only 27 of which are in the EU. The other 28 countries are not bound by any EU rulings. The EU Court should only be making rulings on EU law.

So the ESL can start up with clubs from EU countries participating freely but any clubs outside the EU could be punished? This ESl idea is stupid, they want a closed shop where the original teams cannot be displaced, it's all very American. I say let them have it, let those clubs that want to go play in it but refuse them membership of national leagues. So if Manyoo, Citeh, Liverpool etc want to take part then they're out of the Premier league. Last I saw the majority of fans were against it so we'll see what the clubs choose, if they choose ESL over the fans wishes then to heck with them.

Why is it impossible for us to go to Newcastle and win? (Ignoring our current predicament) We beat Man City, Chelsea, Man U etc all when they had way more money than us. A well run club and a well organised team can still achieve things. Look at Villa this season and Brighton for the last few years.

Newcastle were balancing the books like Swansea when Swansea were able to beat them regularly. Now their funding dwarfs Swansea's. Villa are in the high billions group. Brighton are in the single billions (who is all in) Brentford are the poorest. This is from last year. Palace were at Swansea level but have taken on new investors. https://www.birminghammail.co.

If the Billy bollox clubs believe the others are not worthy of playing them, then please get the fxxxk out of the English pyramid then you can play each other six times per year and swop shirts, scarves, trinkets and balance sheets . We d be better off without them.

Yes well done. These big clubs, the managers often complain about too many games but then ly off on pre and post season tours AND many of them want ANOTHER tournament. It's all about greed. A closed shop ESL is nothing but an attempt to keep more moeny for thise big clubs and what will they do with it, pay even more obscene wage to a small group of players who are already muti millionaires. Any club that turns this down, well down. Any club that wants to go with it, listen to your fans but if you don't be prepared for the consequences.
