Of the players who played today the three I would like to keep and think we have a realistic chance of keeping are:
McCarthy, Yun, Phillips.
If we could hang on to Fer or Austin then that would be great.
Hopefully Furlong will become our right-back.
We have a big problem in central defence. Dunne and Hill can't go on forever, and Onuoha and Caulker are looking like very poor replacements. |  |

I would resign Barton if it was the catalyst to keep Austin for another year .
Say what you like about him , you wont get someone who can drive the team on as he can for the same cost (fee + salary) . We are going to have a young side and need 2 or 3 experienced players.
He can be a prat that is obvious , but yesterday, out of contract , in a relegated team , against a team threatened by relegation who he has played for and showed some affection for , he was professional and was chasing back to our defensive corner with 5 minutes to go .
Chasing a contract , maybe but if he has an influence over Fer , Phillips and Austin and can protect the likes of Doughty , worth a new deal ..... IMO |  | | |

He regrets the move as Liverpool were interested and with the season their keeper had he could have been number one there as he knew who would have to wait his chance with us but wasn't expecting Green to have the season he did. If you pay Barton 35K thats 1.8 mil a year . If you sign someone for a mil and pay them 15k thats the same outlay for as much as a gamble in performance as Barton is in temperament. He seems to get on with his team mates and may have an influence over some of them . | | | |

I did wonder this myself. Obviously wanted to make the step up from Reading but is now back in a potentially struggling championship team.
I thought he looked shaky when he came on yesterday,made a couple of decent saves and came and caught a corner well. But looked terrible against Sheff utd cup game.
I would be tempted to keep Green if we can and sell McCarthy, especially if he doesn't want to be here. Not sure what his price is though. |  |

He was signed in the Championship, after the mad spending spree so is on less wages than the silly earners. As the outstanding player why would he stay on less money?
He may have been offered more money but he did not enter into contract negotiations. His advisors will tout him round to the best club for him as they should.
Even if he did sign a new contract the wages he would no doubt deserve would put the club into the realms of yet more FFP non compliance next season.
