This is mixed feelings as yes it means he isn't playing which is great because he's a cnt. But also means it's freed up his time for those television and radio appearances, plenty of time to dedicate to writing for the media or other such nonsense.
This could be just the start....

This is in line with suspensions given to non league players & officials. I admit that I had expected the FA to be more lenient with Barton though!
His statement is beyond believe. However, he is right that his integrity is not in doubt. Most of the footballing population absolutely know what you are Mr. Barton!
No sympathy at all.
Indeed - Ashford player banned for 12 months for placing 11 bets - admittedly all on Ashford matches - 2 to lose and he played but only as a sub in those two.

I still haven't figured out how he got a free pass from our fans after he refused to play for us, went to Marseille, continued to slag us off and didn't exactly rip up trees when he came back (and was made captain).

The same 'fans' who reckon Ravel should play every week.

Cheered to the rafters by Q Block et al. Puzzled me too.
At best an indifferent performance. One Hollywood 40 yard pass. One poor tackle booked. One penalty conceded that was ignored by the ref.

I totally agree with the sentiments on here. But – though it's no excuse – Barton's dead right about this:
"If the FA is truly serious about tackling the culture of gambling in football, it needs to look at its own dependence on the gambling companies, their role in football and in sports broadcasting, rather than just blaming the players who place a bet."

That misses the point though, players are banned from betting to avoid match fixing. The moral argument about whether you should take money from betting companies or not is irrelevant

I don't think he is.
Betting isn't illegal in this country. Betting companies want to sponsor football so they do. Supporters want to bet on football so they do.
The footballers aren't allowed to bet on the football for glaringly obvious reasons. The rules on it are absolutely crystal clear. Ignoring them and then saying "yeh but there's a Ladbrokes sign at the side of the pitch" as if that somehow negates the rules is ridiculous.
It is, as usual, him making excuses and deflecting.

So Burton is totally banned from football for 18 months. But I guess the FA have no power to stop him appearing on TV as a talking head?? I expect he'll be adding to his massive supply of cash as an "expert" on SKY or such, giving us his words of wisdom.
