Lineker's salary is utter madness let alone Shearers. How is he on that money just for MOTD. Not even the full amounts as its been revealed it doesn't include the fees paid for separate productions.

Shearer not worth the minimum wage. Madness.

She gets up early and hosts two shows on BBC Radio London and another BBC radio channel. Not particularly my cup of tea but seems very good at what she does and obviously very popular with her 'lovely listeners'.

It wouldn't make me want to watch MOTD any less if they got rid of Lineker and Shearer, I watch it for the football. Far too much license fee wasted there. In fact I think all on that list could be replaced by fresh talent on a fraction of the cost. They can all go off to commercial channels and the BBC can introduce new talent and accept that some viewers/listeners will depart. Not going to affect their revenue is it?

Whatever you decreased their salaries by would be a drop in the ocean compared to the savings they're making by removing free licences for the over 75's.

In the end, for pretty much all Public services, the cuts or increased charges are to cover the costs of their unaffordable pensions.

In fairness, if nothing else, the state pension should be increased and every other working pension from there on should be based on how much you pay in to your own private pension and how much it accumulates, whether you work private or public.

Every pensioner needs a basic pension to at least cover the standard of living, but no pensioner should be 'contributing' to other peoples pensions, in this case paying off the deficit of the BBC pension shortfall. That, unfortunately, is what is really happening.

He's not, he also hosts live FA Cup football, the World Cup and also does some radio work.

He'd get a lot more if he went to Sky or BT full time

Would he be a great loss to BBC. It wouldn't bother me if he wasn't on BBC. Could he make up that shortfall by going full time with BT or Sky. If he can then good luck to him, I'm not paying them for TV.

Compared to some of the other people on that list (e.g. Shearer), she does put in a relatively decent shift five days a week, if you were to work out her salary per minute.

Shearer's ridiculous. And it's time for Linkear to permanently go and earn the big money he could get at BT or Sky or whatever. Would MOTD be that much worse for Chappers or somebody else hosting it? I don't think so.

If they ended up with Dan Walker smugly laughing at himself them yes he'd be a big loss.
If they want to compete with other channels they have to pay the going rate for the best presenters, programmes etc and Lineker is one of the best around

The details released yesterday were nothing short of a cover up as many of the earnings for those listed are far greater. It is known within BBC circles that Graham Norton gets £2million a year and not the £610,000 listed. Most of his money comes through BBC Studios and the figure quoted just relates to his radio 2 show. His chat show whacks his earnings up.

On top of what the BBC pay these egotists they also moonlight by hosting corporate events, opening some establishments, doing after dinner speeches etc. Then there are the outdoor location programmes where you wonder who pays for it.

To take an example Fiona Bruce is shown as earning £260k but this excludes her £200k for Antiques Roadshow so the true figure is £460k. When she got the QT gig her wage increased when you could argue it should remain the same because her news appearances have drastically reduced as a result. When she does QT there is an evening dinner for all those who take part and this means staying the night in whatever town or city it is held if miles away from London ditto the same for the Roadshow. For all her earnings and Oxford education it came as a surprise to the townsfolk of Halifax last week when she declared Halifax to be a city on QT. £460k for duff gen...

It is the same with all outdoors presenters like Countryfile or any live TV events where overnight stays are required. It should be that the presenters pay their way from their big salary but I suspect it isn't but maybe someone knows the answer.

Morally it looks wrong to be paying these sort of wages and asking over 75's to stump up or face being criminalised for non payment of the fees should they choose to protest.

Graham Nortons chat show is not made by the BBC, it is made by ITV studios so his salary for that is in the same bracket as people in Doctor Who and Eastenders etc so not included in this.

If BBC are morally wrong for this is it morally wrong for Sky to charge you and over 75's a monthly fee to pay big money for talent and also run adverts as well to increase their income

Back in the day, Moore and Hill just introduced the games, and gave a little analysis, but not much compared to today.

I don’t give a rats butt about what Shearer thinks, and I can live without inane analysis. If you cut that nonsense out: you’d save millions; and we’d actually see more action! It’s not as if we ever recall what they opined 24 hours later.

I was under the impression his chat show was paid through a private production firm and that is why his true figures are undisclosed.

I take your point about Sky and don't dispute it but this thread is about the BBC and they have increased staff costs and increased on air pay while saying they can't fund TV licences. Some of the presenters go abroad and make programmes and as they have to eat and stay in accommodation who is paying for that? Is it the programme makers or us?

I have said before that I have been held responsible for the financial crash by the government and my wage has increased by £1,000.00 since 2010 which is just about a £100 a year as there is a cap on my earnings. Meanwhile Mr Shearer's wage for appearing once or twice a week on MoTD increased by £30,000 in one year. I graft and get sweet FA and Shearer uses his tongue to make a few comments over game highlights and makes a fortune. That can't be right but still it is not enough for them as they have many side lines in hosting events to top off their huge salaries. I don't think anyone wants to hear my anecdotes...
