Dom Ball 07:39 - Sep 22 with 3386 viewsswisscottage

I think a special call out on Dom Ball is warranted.

With all the flair players, and the rock that was the BFG yesterday getting the plaudits, its easy to overlook the impact on the game a player like Dominic Ball has.

I like many on here I think were somewhat underwhelmed by his signing in the summer, but my word has he brought me around.

He's not perfect, doesn't have the technical ability of some others in the team, but he more than enough to avoid him being a liability in a passing game someone like Karl Henry would be.

But his overall sense of positioning, strength in the tackle, heading ability, and having just enough pace, makes him perfect for that defensive midfield role.

I'm bewildered as to why Rotherham didn't use him, and dead chuffed we seem to have uncovered another gem for absolutely nothing.

totally agree. he is brilliantly disciplined too - doesn't find himself exposed in no go areas. keeps it simple - has a lot of shaun derry type qualities about himself. great team player.

100% correct, we have been missing his type since Henry and Derry!

Dare I say it that his signing, and the reaction to it, reminded me somewhat of the reaction when Gerry signed Olly in the summer of 1991. Everyone then seemed underwhelmed by that signing but eventually he won people round and showed he deserved to be a part of that great team.

I've liked what I've seen.

I think he made one howler yesterday towards the end of the game.

Cameron & Barbet gave the ball away several times, Dom once I think

captains fantastic

Easily forgiven now but Cameron on the ball was terrible. Thought Ball was great and Eze put in a proper crunching midfield challenge early. Evidence of actual coaching.

Ball in better option for me as a DM, Cameron off the bench to close games out like Rangel and Pugh.

Against Sheff Wed he gave the ball away too much.

However, against Millwall he was excellent. He really broke up the play and also slowed the game down when we needed it. Simple passes that were the correct ones. He played well. I hope he continues this way. We shall see.

That is quite a parallel you're drawing there but hopefully it does turn out that way. Has certainly been a big difference between what we were led to expect and what we've got.

One thing he undoubtedly has on his side is he must know how Warbs wants to play better than anyone else in there at the moment. Not saying they don't all know what they're doing but Ball has years of experience of working with him. Good to have that knowledge in that position.

I liked the look of him in the Bristol City cup game. I was down in the Paddock and noticed him talking a lot to the other players, and he was very aware of what was going on in the match, covering for Kane when necessary and he was very busy. The kind of thing you want to see in a defensive midfielder.

He has been fantastic, he has continued his brilliant performances in pre season into the games which matter. Well done to whoever got him in

Poll: Of the 3 linked away, who do you think will still be a QPR player come February?

Minor concern. He let the ball run to turn almost every time he received it and by the end of the game millwall were expecting it. He needs to mix it up a little, sometimes play first time the way he’s facing rather than dummying always. Got away with it though. Otherwise tidy and strong.
