Good time to start getting your holiday money together, last year when I went to Rhodes it was almost parity.

There was always going to be a squabble over the EU budget, with or without UK contributions. Countries that have benefited over the previous 7 years aren't going to want to reduce/reverse the benefits. Nor, are the net contributors keen to increase when they see so many beneficiary countries growing economically.
Varadkar lost the Irish GE due to Irish domestic issues - not his stance over Brexit.
There's no doubt that the UK economy has performed better than expected since 2016, especially the unemployment rate. But growth is anemic (also in EU), productivity is poor and, relatively, getting worse. Business investment has fallen. The last 2 are probably related.
The full effects of quitting the EU are unlikely to be revealed as dramatic shocks. Even Honda closing Swindon barely caused a ripple. However, as a Remainer, I think there will be slow, steady decline in the UK economy - relative to the rest of the EU. It was economics that was my main reason for voting Remain. And, if the economy doesn't work, you don't have the monies to invest in public services.
Short term movements in the currency do not affect many people. Unless you earn in £ and spend in Euros (like me) or your income is £ related (my pension). If the £/Euro rate was the same as on 22 June 2016, I'd be 100 Euros per month better off.

Honda closing Swindon was a direct result of a trade agreement between Japan and the EU . They can manufacture at home or more likely in China .

I consider your drug issues to be a decade behind the US. I regret to say that many, many decent people will have their lives ended or ruined by addiction.

Decade behind the US.

Sure in both.

LA is a clear vision of where we are headed on homelessness.

I live in the US for part of the year and yes they do have their issues. The big battleground is now Trump and Sanders who is making headway on a small socialist agenda particularly on healthcare. Folks in the US realise that some form of single-payer system could work. Having said that the US is still so economically strong and they love their money and their guns.

OP not aged well.
Big difference between 21 Feb and tonight below 1.15.

Wonder what happened in the intervening period?

Coronavirus must have had some effect I reckon. Possibly coinciding with the start of the trade talks, anyhow I hope people took my earlier recommendation and bought at €1.20

Trade talks. anticipation based on the language coming out from both sides that UK is more likely to leave without an effective deal

I hope that, if you could, you followed Loftboy's advice.
Tonight the rate was 1.0982. A sign that my pension is payable tomorrow. In Euros.

Yep saw that, if the whole world is currently in meltdown then why has the pound bombed, surely all currencies would act the same in infected areas? This is probably why I drive a van for a living and don’t work in finance!!

I try to follow the exchange rate. As an estate agent in France, both our regular personal income is in Euros and many of our clients are coming from the UK and need to transfer money to pay for a French house, it has a very profound effect.
The only thing I can think is the recent rate cut by the BOE, where ECB didn't cut. And the coronavirus is likely to have a greater effect in the UK than it will across Europe. The latter doesn't seem too plausible, unless the markets are unimpressed by the Govt response.

Demand for dollars goes up when there is a big sell off of shares - its 'seen' as a safe haven currency - So less pounds and euros are demanded as large institutional investors demand more and more dollars or at least dollar denominated assets
