do most on here still have the old fish and chips on a Friday.
well now its just about anything with chips.
as a kid it was always mauds in latimer road....rock and chips, pickeld onion and crackling.
mauds went years ago, so now its the savoy in east acton. |  |

Next time any of you are heading up to Derby or Forest stop off in Long Eaton along the way to eat in at Georges Tradition. Stunningly good fish & chips and reasonably priced. There is a takeaway Georges Tradition near the City Ground but the quality isn't as good as the restaurant in Long Eaton. |  |

Best fish and chip shop in the World.
Husband, wife and son used to run it as I recall, in the 60’s used to go up there after games at LR and the occasional summer evening when there’d be long queues outside. The old fella was a fish guru and would only cook a few fish at a time, hence the massive queues, though nobody ever complained.
Haven’t driven past for years now but the place seemed to stand there empty almost as a shrine to days gone by. Anybody know what happened there, love to know. |

Got a takeaway coming from Mr Fish in Queens Park later. Quality place, it burned down last year and God I missed it.

Still one of the best. Either the general standard of fish and chips has gone down or my bar has gone up. Too much questionable fish and my absolute bugbear, oil/fat that isn't changed frequently enough. |  |

Rock seems to be on all the time. Skate, however seems to be on weekends only. It's licenced so if and when things return to normal you can “eat in” and have a few drinks.
I was also a customer of the shop in Latimer Rd and drank in the Vol as we used to call the British Volunteer. I think it was one pf the last Whitbread pubs to have their bitter on hand pump. | | | |

yeah ill deffinately try that chippy.
cant think of many pubs smaller than the vol.
But the vol, pav, pole and the latimer were our 2nd homes all through the 70's and 80's, sadly only the pavilion remains. | |
