He wasn't violent that I ever saw but he was definitely reckless and loved practical jokes which often involved a degree of peril or destruction.

Ha, well yes that sounds about right!

Poll: How old is everyone on here?

Was it the Ace?

Saw New Order/James/Stockholm Monsters there in 1982 (I think)

You've pulled that out of the bag. I was at that one too as well. New Order is my favourite band, I even went to Deeside in Wales on a coach to see them at the Futurama festival. They played this brilliant version of 586 at the end. There were some other good bands there as well.

I was going to say REM as well. Saw them supporting on the Longest Day Tour and thought they were utter rubbish.

Hi danehoop… If it’s the same concert I was at, it was a one off, festival type concert held on June 22nd (longest day of the year) 1985 at the Milton Keynes bowl?
The concert went on all day and there were a number of decent support acts… Spear of Destiny were great, and the Ramones were good too. Billy Bragg (yawn) was not very good but I remember REM being particularly crap.
Being in England in the middle of summer it absolutely pissed down with rain all day long… We were all wet, freezing cold and most were tired and hungry by the time REM came on.
The thing I remember most about them was the lead singer at the start of there set saying “Gee we don’t get weather like this back in Athens Georgia”… which provoked a few thousand people to shout back “well f*ck off back there then” and a number items then getting thrown at them on stage…
I thought U2 were great live, the Unforgettable Fire was particularly memorable (and I’m not a massive fan).

Diesel Park West.

I’ve seen them more times than any other band. They are not famous,,infamous or familiar. To anyone. Not will they ever be.

When people say “I was on the lift from the ground floor up with this band”, with the Diesels, I got on at the basement level and am currently heading towards the core of the earth.

Love the gits though. Bloody brilliant band.

Was gonna bring this up earlier, but you've forced me now.

A very good friend of mine, no longer with us, her brother is the guitarist in Jesus Jones.

We went to the Food (label) Christmas party at Brixton Academy in the early 90s. Diesel park West were on the bill. Think they were watchable.

Also on the bill, a bunch of silly, and annoying little boys apeing psychadelia/madchester/rock and roll/Faces.

My now wife insisted we left the room, and I was happy to.

That band had had one hit at that point - There's No Other Way - never truly been able to get on with them since; although the Park Life album is good, if I try to block out some of the prejudices formed that evening.

A couple of years later Blur supporting Jesus Jones would've been unthinkable.

JJ always a good show. I've seen them a few times AFTER they were famous, at steadily decreasing venues - in order: Electric Ballroom; Garage; Bull and Gate.

been thinking of starting an 'After they were famous' thread. Got at least two gooduns there...

I saw Røyskopp in 2001. They were probably already famous in Norway by then though.

Didn't actually see a show of his, but one night in the Marquee Wardour Street) got chatting to dead scruffy bloke almost dementedly holding on to a reel of tape, with more tacked splices than original tape.

He reckoned it was going to make him famous, I just thought he was a nutter.

So that's how I met Mike Oldfield

R's Holy,

That was the one!

I was at the front when the Ramones came one. Within the first minute of them starting I ended up about 100 meters back from the stage, such was the sound from the PA and the mild madness which ensued at the front.

Thought Bragg did OK, although it was an odd gig for him as it wasn't a particularly political crowd, he managed to dodge a few bottles which came his way at least. Nice touch with him playing 40 with U2 at the end of the gig.

There was also the Faith Brothers on the bill, who were a mate of a mate's band, I saw them again at the Town and Country Club around the same time and they were pretty good. Thought they might be bigger than they ended up being.

Having seen them before and since, I reckon U2 were probably getting towards the height of their abilities at that point. It was a good gig, but a pain in the rrr's to get back from .

Never knowingly understood

Epie was around then so I suspect they were on the cusp of fame here by then as well.

Great band.

Pulp as 3rd Support to Lush at the Venue New Cross in 1990

late nineties had a digital agency and we made cd rom stuff that went on music CD's for the likes of Ash and Garbage for Mushroom records.

Did a thing called Muse TV for their new band Muse and they played a few tracks at their Christmas party in the Church nightclub in Brixton
