Oh, and of course, Tiger Lilies in many pubs in the N1 region, most often the King's Head Uppe1r Street. Mid 90s heaven.

"I can still remember some of my favourite ever performance were in pubs. We used to play in the King’s Head in Islington and that was a fantastic place to play. I remember we used to go on on a Monday or Tuesday and then eventually I persuaded the manager to give us a Saturday and it was amazing! A lot of fans started to come. Normally it’s just a bar with people drinking beer and the bands were usually cover bands but on a Saturday night the whole bar would just be full of Tiger Lillies fans. And I remember at one of the shows everybody just started stamping on the floor, the atmosphere was incredible."

Mate, One of my favourite bands Blancmange . Seen them many, many times over the years.
I'm amazed no-one on this thread has said the Sex Pistols at the LesserlFree Trade hall, 1976.
I estimate one in five people i've ever met have told me they were there!
Same mate. My mate (and fellow R who now lives in Sweden after working with a band called Portion Control back in that era) and me used to go to loads of Blancmange gigs. The sound was so raw and modern. I still like Gods Kitchen as it reminds me of those times. Other bands we used to see back then were The Passage, Sad Lovers and Giants, The Cocteau Twins (Liz Fraser used to erotically use one of her tits as a tambourine) The Sound, Human League, Cabaret Voltaire and my beloved New Order. It was a great time for music.

Also the aforementioned Q Tips at least three times at the Marquee.

Nirvana opening for Tad at the Duchess of York in Leeds.
Nirvana is always the band that springs to mind first. Saw them at the Astoria supporting Tad (probably on the same tour with Mudhoney) then again at ULU and The Dome in Tufnell Park.
Oasis at the Barfly, laughably terrible. They got the ache with the punters in the bar afterwards who told them so which was funny at the time. Coldplay at the same venue on another night, on some NME thing.

I saw Prodigy at a Raindance in a warehouse in Cambridge before Charly was released. I thought Keith was just some punter who had jumped on stage in a Marceau Marceau mime outfit. Great night, Zero B played as well.
I saw Rage Against The Machine support Suicidal Tendencies at Kilburn and instantly was hooked from the first chord. They were actually better than Suicidal that night which was incredible enough in its self.
Also saw Kula Shaker at the Dublin Castle the night before they signed for Sony. I thought the lead singer looked a bit familiar, only to leave work the next night and bump into them standing outside Sony on Great Marlborough Street and say 'Great gig last night', 'Thanks Mark, how are you?' replied Crispian. It was only then I realised we went to six form college together! Nice bloke, he used to spend his lunchtimes at Peter Green's house round the corner, rendering him suitably useless for the afternoon!
Eons ago, I saw Suicidal Tendencies at the Town and Country Club. It was by some distance the scariest gig this softie from the suburbs had (has) ever been too; great atmosphere and performance by the band but an intense experience with wild behaviour and a large, seething mosh pit.
I was queuing to get my French cousin a Suicidal baseball cap - they were the mutt's nuts - when someone tapped me on the shoulder. This is it, I thought, I am going to get my face smashed in for spilling someone's pint or ogling someone's girlfriend but no, it was a grinning, long lost friend who lived nearby and who had popped in for some calming music before bedtime

Vinegar Joe, Kilburn & The High Roads, Elton John & Bernie Taupin, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Dr Feelgood, Pogue Mahone. *Edit. I have since remembered Jimi Hendrix at The Farx in Souhall, The Nice at the same venue and I used to sit on the wall outside and listen to Deep Purple rehearse in the bass players garage.

I don't remember Hendrix at the Farx, apart from the night he died when they played the whole of Band of Gypsies.
I saw Free at the Farx just after Alright Now came out. It was rammed so tight the only thing keeping us cool was the sweat dripping off the ceiling. Good times, eh!

I saw IDLES at The Forum (Town and Country Club as was) last year, didn't really know what to expect but it was probably the most intimidating yet friendly atmosphere I've known at a gig.
A few where the support ended up bigger than the headliners, for better or worse: First band I ever saw - SImple Minds (Magazine) - rubbish! The Specials, third on the bill behind Gang of Four and The Mekons Scritti Politti (The Pop Group) Big Country (Theatre of Hate) U2 (Talking Heads...might have to pay more than £3.50 for that now)

If they were in London, I am pretty sure I was there for two of those. The Gang of Four (great band) and Mekons one and the Theatre of Hate one. You have reminded me that I also saw Big Country supporting U2 which I think was at the Palais.
