Warburton issues strong defence of Wallace according to WLS. He 'collectively' blamed the defence for the two penalties conceded v PNE. He clearly considers Wallace as his first choice LB, which makes the 4 year contract offered to Niko even more unusual. For sure Niko will play games this season, given the fact that there is no way Wallace will play three games a week even if not injured, but 4 years is a hell of a long contract for someone who he doesn't deem a regular 1st teamer. money must be very small to compensate for this.
It will be interesting to see how Wallace's season pans out, having successfully wrestled the shirt off Manning. When he first signed, he would have been first choice if he hadn't got injured. But now that he is, I feel that generally we have less tolerance of him than we would have had a year ago. I wonder is that down to his own performances, or are we comparing him negatively to Manning's more swashbuckling style going forward?

It’s a Wallace thing, can’t get hung, drawn and quartered out of our minds.

Nice work. Very brave.

We're clearly in a far better position financially now that Eze has been sold, so we can protect our young players with four-year contracts. Also, perhaps in this COVID cliamte players are more likely to commit to us for longer. And, as Clive has told, us our wage structure is very low basic coupled with high performance-related bonuses.

We clearly need more than one left back, so I'm not sure we can read anything into this bar the fact that a manager will always defend a player in public and a DoF will always sign cheap cover if he can.

Warburton is probably trying to cheer up Wallace.

On a side note, QPR's 4-year plans rarely come to fruition.

That's a relief that we won't have to pay out many high performance-related bonuses then.

Never knowingly right.

That answers my query on Niko's contract, but what about our view/tolerance of Wallace? He has actually only played 17 league games for us, so despite his age he is a pup at this level. Yet I sense a fair degree of impatience with him ( not just regarding the penalties) Any thoughts?

Perhaps I'm ageist? When a youngster makes mistakes/has a bad game, I think "He's just not wise enough." But when I see bad play from a guy who's 33 and onetime 'Captain of Rangers," regardless of the number of appearances in this league, I'm left thinking "He's just not good enough."

I'm still not over the Coventry game, sadly. I assumed someone of his years would not make such an elementary error on their 44' goal.

And a shallow comment: he looks a bit geeky
